U-Turn and T-Boned
Copied from another form.......... At the end of the video is where it happens, real quick.
Last Saturday while traveling down a two-lane Highway that has speeds of 55 miles an hour somebody coming the other direction decided to suddenly do a u-turn causing me to t-bone them in the middle of the highway Snoopy will not be coming home again.
I do not have pictures from the scene I was not in any condition to take the pictures my body was in too much shock. Both myself and my daughter are doing better now but are very sore. I cannot walk without a cane or some sort of assistance at this point but I should fully recover. Both my daughter and I were wearing half helmets, jeans and leather vests. There is signs on my boots and both of our vests that they protected us.
I do have video of the accident when it happened the oncoming vehicle from the time they became visible until point of impact was 3 seconds. At 55 miles an hour it takes 4.5 seconds to stop on dry pavement plus between 1.5 and 2.3 seconds reaction time. I was not speeding and was breaking as hard as I could at the time of impact.
Snoopy's frame is damaged and therefore he is not repairable. I love that bike it was always reliable treated me well and protected me up till the end. The spoked wheels and wider rubber helps to absorb a lot of the impact saving both my daughter and myself additional injury.
If I had swerved to the left I would have gone into oncoming traffic and had a head-on collision. If I had gone to the right I would have impacted in a ditch and into trees which would not have been able to give way the way the side of the car did. I have watched the video 20 to 30 times and can see nothing that I could have done better. I will at some point in the near future post the video on my YouTube.

Holy Moly, Nut much reaction time there

Getting to the point that all vehicles on the road need to have some type of video recording device to protect themselves from lawsuits and claims. Over in other countries you get sizable insurance rate cuts for having such a device. I have a couple GoPro but non-operational all the time. That might change!! Not much"he said", "she said"when it's on video.

Sully glad you came out as good as you 2 did. It could have been a lot worse if you did not react as you were able to because you were paying attention.
-
Damn Sully Thank God the two of you survived. Bless you both with a quick and full recovery.
-
Wow Sully! Glad you both are ok! Definitely not much time to do anything there. Could have been a lot worse.
