Goldwing front wheel wobble
I have an 06 goldwing Motor Trike, Has anyone had problems with the front wheel wobbling at slower speeds,25mph and slower?
If I am holding the bars ever so slightly it doesnt happen , but when I let go I get a wobble that gets worse if I don't correct it.
Dealer said that Honda factory bearings were crap and I should replace them with a conical type bearing.
What about raking the front end?
Is it the factory tire?
any help?

Re: Goldwing front wheel wobble
Sonny: My guess is that it is the front tire, out of balance or round. However, there are other possibilities such as steering bearings or rear end alignment. Raking the front forks will make steering easier. Think of it as power steering for the trike. I'm sure you will have others chiming in on this, also check the other areas of this site, there has been quite a bit written on these subjects.
Re: Goldwing front wheel wobble
When we got our GL1500 Motor Trike it had the same kind of wobble you are describing. Put on the 4.5° rake kit and it is steady as a rock, even when slowing down, which was when the wobble was most pronounced.
(BTW - riding no handed is not recommended at any time, but it seems that a lot, if not most, of the wobble complaints note, "It's not noticeable unless I let go of the bars". Now just how do we find the wobble then?;) )
The stock 1800 as a 2 wheeler has a known wobble, and many folks have fixed it by replacing the ball bearings with tapered roller bearings. A rake kit usually comes with those new roller bearings, and raking it makes the steering easier and lessens that low speed weave.
