Ready to take the plunge to 3 wheels, looking to go used probably 2014 or 2013 or depending on the deals I find I may go older. Are there any years to stay away from, any particular model years with significant upgrades?

Not a whole lot as the first HD TriGlides start in 2009.....2014 starts the Wet heads - and you'll get as many for and against on that upgrade. Different "Boom Box" from 13 to 14 too {I know it wasn't call boom box in 13, right?}
Tour Pak takes on the "leaner" look in 14, Braking changes and Lighting too. If they changed the suspension it didn't matter, both are sub-par.......That's all I got....
I like the 2009. No Cat easier to work on with regular clutch. Brakes are good just needs pads more often but no big deal. IMO just a better trike
I'm sure you'll get lots of responses on this one but you might want to check the "sticky threads" here regarding the change out of the drive sprocket. Msocko3 did an excellent write up on the procedure. The change out gives much better low end pull and a lot of the owners of MY 09 and 10 did this mod.
Lots of changes from 09 to present and if you have deep pockets, you'll have lots to choose from. Remember though the thousands you lay out for the trike is only the beginning.... Mods, safety chrome, upgrades....:gah:
Good luck
Doug

Interesting take/input on the first year of the Harley trike. Wife/I both have 2010's and we LOVE them.
Naturally we have done many upgrades/improvements but they ARE GOOD MACHINES - OUTWEST here in CA they are going at good prices (FAR cheaper than newer models).
I've seen many 09's for sale with very Low mileage and as stated above many of these upgrades can be done AT HOME/YOURSELF.
:)
I cannot say about triglides older than a 14. This is my 1st triglide and I bought it with the intention that this would be the last motorcycle that I would buy, it's an age thing. I have been very happy and do not miss the 2 wheelers that I sold. Jim
Due to medical reasons I had to go to a trike and there is no way I even could consider a new one as I live on VA disability. I found this 09 at a dealer south of Austin Texas called Mitchel Power Sports with less than 40k on it. Only bad thing I have found so far is the lock on the Lehman trunk is pure junk. I haven't been able to ride it but a couple hundred miles due to the weather but so far I like it. Just can't take the turns as fast as I did while on two. Good luck to you
Just wishing you luck on your search. Hope you have many great miles left.
I think you will enjoy your 09 remember it is a Harley forget Lehman origin replace the latch if needed if it is junk it is because previous owners slammed it repeatedly. I have had zero issues with mine, discussed closing with Bride now all is good. As seat time increases you will surprise yourself your riding buddies will not be able to keep up on the twisties I know it is wild. Congrats on your new to you ride. travel safely fearless
