This is late '30s, maybe early '40s before paving or restoration ... and another maybe in early '50s after paving. BRP ground breaking was in early '30s just across the line in NC, but it was years before all of it was paved. I got bunches.
June 17, 2005 Wife Unit took her first "ride" as "driver" :)… she never wanted to "drive" after that.
We rode up to Luray, met another couple (original owners of our trike) and their granddaughter. Rode the Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah National Park, he rode his VTX, what a special memory. The dear lady developed a cancer, they moved to another state to be closer to family, and she passed in '15. The granddaughter is a nurse now, the fellow has moved back to Va.

My friend from Floyd sent me this a couple of years ago. Beautiful in the Winter.

Our spot.
Last one, not quite the same view as when the Jobes went west on 66 in The Grapes of Wrath.
Fascinating to be so close …
Them Jobes crossed that bridge too.
Then, there's closer to home. Back in the '90s we were at Whetstone Ridge on the Blue Ridge Parkway, saw a print of a painting of an old store with hay wagon, etc, wife loved it, we bought it, brought it home with her holding it on our '85 GL1200 …. 25-30 miles total. It's in our dining room.
Headed home
Ice Cream stop … after a nice ride.
