Alternator replacment
My alternator started making noise. So I am replacing it.
When trying to pull the nut off the fan I found my wife's power/USB cable to phone all twisted through the fan. It must have gotten sucked up
My screen on my housing is to big. I will fix that
I cannot seem to get the nut off the fan
It it a normal right hand thread or is it backward

Im thinking like me its a Southpaw.........Reminds of my 68 Charger. Both right side lug nuts were left thread....:gah:

Looked at pictures in classifieds on thesamba.com and sure looks like regular threads to me. All my generators are packed away in storage so I can't physically verify. My John Muir "Complete Idiot" manual says to hold shaft with vice grips and use a chisel and hammer method to loosen the nut. It gets 45 ft/lbs when reinstalled. Hope this helps.

"if" there is some thread protruding........compare thread angle with a right hand bolt.......i'm sure it is fine thread, but if you really look close..you will see the angle,or lay a small drill bit in the thread grooves. good luck!

Well I got the alternator and fan off but had to do it a screwy way
I took the nuts off the alternator pedestal, pried it up enough to shove a rag between it and the screen/plate.
Then I cut it off with a saws-all
The rag captured all the shavings from the cut
I have a new pedestal I was planning to use anyway.
If I get time today I will research it more on the nut.
No threads showing

I got the nut off
It is a Right hand thread
Now I cant get the hub behind the fan off
I am soaking it in penetrating oil now (PB Blaster)

I got the hub off
Had to use a puller
Not sure why it was on so tight
Today I cleaned and painted the engine
tomorrow I will put it back together

All back together and running good
I left the alternator belt cover off for now just incase
If all is Ok I will put it back on in the next few days
