On my 2012 GL1800 with Roadsmith trike kit, I'm noticing a sound like humming and slight grinding on all gears. I noticed there's no play or back and forth movement on the drive shaft between the transmission and differential. There is a ring that adjust the movement. My question is how much back and forth movement should it have? Thanks

Where do you see this "[B]ring[/B]"?
I wouldn't expect to see any end to end free movement of the drive shaft once it's in place.
Not to say you don't have a bad or failing U-joint …
… just that driveshaft should not move freely forwards or backwards once put in place.
The U-Joints are fine. The ring is located towards differential side. I think the ring prevents the shaft from coming off the transmission. I've adjusted the ring with a 1/4" movement back and forth and I don't hear the noise anymore but I'm not sure if that was right.
I've also loosened the ring and when I pull the drive shaft towards differential it comes off the transmission shaft.

I have no firsthand knowledge but I believe the front yolk should be attached to the trans output shaft.I do not believe that split collar is something Roadsmith did.Hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in soon.
Spoke with the Roadsmith Trike shop and they recommended a 1/16-1/8" play. While I was on it I grease the spline (it was dry) and did a ride test and it was a quiet ride. The noise is gone.. Thank you for the support.
