Insurance Question
I'm with Geico. Called them before I committed to buying the trike. I was told they cover the conversion part as an accessory.
What I need to know since I am woefully ignorant about conversion costs, what should
i raise my accessory coverage to? It is currently at $2000.
Thanks for your help.

Probably should bump it to 8 grand at least ?📞

Fuzzy,
Consider raising your accessory coverage for the full replacement value of a comparable "new trike kit" installed at today's prices plus any other accessories that may be on the trike. This is the total accessory coverage.
The accessory coverage costs can add up fairly quickly. A more realistic total accessory coverage amount is more in the $15k plus range.

:Agree:
I have $16K accessory coverage.

It will totally depend on the state you are in, state insurance rules, and the company's rules. If my kit is worth 16K and I get 3K worth of accessory coverage on my basis policy, then I buy an additional 13K to cover my replacement cost should I need it.

I added 12k extra coverage.

I'm leaning around 12k total ... should cover my used "kit" I still don't know what year the kit is ... not even sure how to find out if the dealer doesn't know. I'm fairly certain it's a Champion kit ... maybe call them with the VIN?

Look around (inside and underneath). Many kits have ID labels or tags. Armed with that info you can call. The tag may even have date converted. :xszpv: :xszpv:

When I had my Wing triked in 2015 I raised my accessory coverage to 20K. I was with Progressive at the time. I switched to Foremost (AARP) this year. All the coverages were better and the cost was less. They also insure it as a trike. They asked me the value, I told them 30k and my Escapade trailer is included as an accessory.

Fuzzy.... maybe you could ask the dealer to contact the former owner to find out and then the dealer let you know what he said?

My Champion has the tag on the right side of the swingarm.

I had Gieco when I got my trike and was told by Gieco that they only cover a max of $3000 of add ons. My lien holder would not accept that coverage so I went to someone else and got full replacement coverage for the wing and the kit(s).
Again, as stated in another post, I live in NC so the insurance may differ state to state.

When I bought my trike about 4 years ago my insurance agent told me that the Roadsmith trike kit was considered an accessory. I made a list of the accessories and their cost which he passed on to their underwriters and another agent and we decided that I should add another 12,500 along with the included 3,500 of accessories for a total of 16,000 of coverage for accessories plus actual cash value for the GoldWing.
My agent retired in May and my policy was turned over to the guy that bought him out. I bought a escapade trailer in May so I called my new agent to make sure I had enough coverage. During one phone call he said I probably needed to add a little more to accessories coverage and in another phone call he said I was covered for 42,000 dollars for my bike with accessories.
I called the main headquarters and asked them to tell me exactly what my coverage would pay out if I totaled out my 2009 GoldWing with a Roadsmith kit and the add ons that I ordered from the trike dealer like the wheels, rake kit, etc..
Now Farmers Insurance Co. covers the trike kit as part of the motorcycle since it is permanently attached and I have 12,500 added accessories coverage. The 3,500 accessories coverage is part of the 12,500. I think I am covered and they tell me I am covered up to around 35,000 of replacement cost. I am not 100 percent sure and will be doing some more checking.

I went with Geico and based on a new kit cost and accessories I have, I added 10k in coverage. I have a data base I use to track vehicle accessories, gas mileage and service. I created it (yea I know ... geek). It tells me my accessory expenditure (including 8k for the conversion kit) is $9,500. I should be good.
