Let me guess - Is the key stamped CH751? Almost all RV's have 751 keysets for the storage compartments. That key number is quite common for other cabinets and lock boxes, too. It'll keep folks out of your gas tank, but it is handy to know you can easily find a key if yours gets misplaced.
In my post I called it a 🔒. It is not a keyed lock 🔒. Never really thought the lock design was very secure. When the factory lock broke all l needed was a screwdriver and in 5 seconds it was open. When I replaced it with the RV lock I used the thumb lock. No key required.
