After joining the forum last Sept. and asking about trikes, health issuses put the search on hold... till now. This Friday I will be riding my new to me 2005 1300 vtx roadsmith trike home 160 miles. Any suggestions on my first long ride in 90 degree heat?

Suggestions are two fold... First STAY HYDRATED!!! You body radiator has to work or you will be in trouble.

As for the Trike just take it easy and get a feel for it. If you are new to three wheels I'd suggest some parking lot time before hitting the streets. I have a parking lot about a block from my home with all sorts of islands and such in it. What a great place to get use to a trike....

Have a safe ride home!!! :) :) :)

Make sure you get a good feel for it before you hit the race track. If you have never been on 3, you Will definatly need to get comfortable for a while. Hopefully your distance has no treacherous twisties or challenges for a new rider. Good luck-please give us a detailed summary when you arrive "shinny side up".:wave4::Trike1::D

Thanks for advice and I do plan on taking it easy and stay to the back roads. I am going to delay the ride back 1 day because the weather is supposed to cool off on Saturday. Will let you know how it went when I get back home.

Well the 160 mile trip home on the vtx was great even tho it was hot out. I left the dealer and tried to remember all the info I read on here about riding a trike but the 1 thing I think really helped was pull and lock the elbow on the curves. One great benefit of buying the trike is my wife now wants to go for rides with me. Like so many on here have said before, I wish I would have done this sooner. Thanks everyone for the great info on this forum...let the fun begin.
