I have almost 36,000 miles on my MPA reversed and using Dyna Beads. Have grown tired of the MPA Hard Ride and wonder what is a good replacement? If there was any noise out of the tire can't prove it by me, no hearing aids while riding. Hate those speed bumps at the casino.

Several members have switched over to the AVON TRIKE tire and say it rides much smoother. There are several threads about that tire so you should be able to find all sorts of information. I have one of these tires in my shop just waiting for the BT45 to ware out. I hope it is as good as the guys are saying. :xszpv: :xszpv:

What you want is the Avon Cobra TRIKE Radial Tire 130/70R-18 part # 90000020646 whether it's an 1800 Trike or if it's a 1500 Trike.

I had a MPA for a few years, removed it with like 60-70% of tread still on it.
Wore like Iron .... :)
.... rode like iron ....
.... and is hanging on the wall in the basement ....
.... like an old iron horse shoe.;)

The Avon trike tire is a great tire, love the ride and the way it holds the road. I have one on my 1500 GW and my buddy has one on his 1800 GW and would do it again. That being said, don't count on 30k plus miles. I think we're probably looking at more like 12k on the rough Ky roads.

+4 on the Avon Trike tire.
I just put one on my Roadsmith to replace a Bridgestone BattleAx BT-45 mounted in reverse.
The BT-45 had 10K and was just slightly starting to cup. It had seen some pretty severe twisties in the last 4k miles or so.
To me, the switch was a huge difference in smoothness and much quieter. I knew that going from a worn biased to a new radial tire would be a difference, but I wasn't prepared for how smooth it runs. Sticks like glue in the twisties too. It's no where near as harsh.
So far, I'm well-pleased with it, but like KyBigMac says; I wouldn't expect 30+K miles out of it. I got 10K out of the BT-45 but most of it was in the twisties. If I can see 10-15K out of this Avon, I'm gonna be a real happy camper.
IF you decide to go with one, make sure you get the TRIKE tire as Avon also sells the same Cobra tire in the same size for 2-wheeled bikes. I got mine from J&P Cycles.

Avon Trike Tire

We had the Avon radial put on last June and have zero complaints. Leaving for Americade this coming week and the tire will have close to 15K on it when we get back. It will be time for a new one and it will be another Avon radial, even though it's about 7K short of what the Active Pilot would run. There is no comparison to the smoothness of the ride and it absorbs a lot of the little bumps.

Sounds like an Avon Trike Tire for me. Will miss the Mileage and hope the Smileage will return. Dyna Beads of course.

Baldy,
I run Dyna beads in my tires. I mount my own tires as well.
To keep the Dyna beads from caking up, I only lube the bead area of the tire and nothing on the rim itself.
I also use a tire lube that is designed specifically for tires, not just any old plain soap/water solution. This helps prevent corrosion of the aluminum rim.
I'm also using nitrogen in my tires as I feel they run cooler and have less internal moisture buildup...again, not to start a controversy but just my own personal preferences.
I think you will be well-pleased with the Avon Trike tire. I only have a few miles on mine so far and quite impressed with it compared to the BT-45.

I generally take my trike to Jim at M&J in Martinsburg WV for my service work. He does good work and I don't have to worry about my screwing up. Even though he is 70+ miles one way, it is a nice ride.

PS Good excuse to stop in to the Casino in Charlestown also.

Just took a closer look at my MPA and I swear it could go another 30K miles. On my way to Frederick Md MVA it reminded me to be sure to forgo the 30K miles and get the Avon sooner the better. The way the State maintains the connections to the bridges will shake your fillings loose.

Shoutout to Jim Murphy at M&J Trikes WVa

Just found out that Jim is home recovering from an operation. Get Well Soon Jim.
