Default Question for Accuride System owners

I would like to know how the system is working for you, particularly 2015 and newer models.

If you do not own a Roadsmith with the Accuride System, please do not respond. I need first-hand information.

    Thanks!

    Mike,

I have a 2010 Goldwing (Roadsmith) with the Accuride system and now that you mentioned this, to be truthful, I have no idea if it's even working or what it's supposed to be doing??

i'm going to call my installer this morning, and ask him, what It's purpose is, and if he's actually even installed this system.... I have never even heard any sounds like it's working??

I have not had any problems, since receiving, and riding my trike (2nd season here).... BUT THANK YOU, cause "maybe" it's working cause my trike seams to be ok, BUT would I even know the difference, if it wasn't installed in the first place...Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ?????????????

    Thank you!

    Ronnie

Interesting. First, look to see if you have air shocks with a black airline attached at the upper end .

Two, watch the video on RS site under "options" >Accuride System. It shows how it works and there is no doubt when the compressor kicks on.

Three, if you have them, check the fuse which on mine is located near the battery and runs from the accessory port in the fuse box. I believe it is a five amp fuse.

Were the options not listed on your buyers order Ronnie?

Once you have determined you do have Accuride, one way you can check to see if it is working is to turn your ignition on but dont crank it and you and your wife both get on it, that should activate the system.

If you find that you do have it and both of you mount it and it does not power on the compressor, check the fuse. If that is good then the ride height sensor may need to be adjusted or replaced.

For tech support, call Mark at Roadsmith, he is the Gold Wing expert.

Note: After you turn the ignition on there is a 20 second delay before the compressor comes on. that keeps the compressor from coming on instantly at every little change. Thanks for chiming in Papa Zook.

I would think the accuride would give a much smoother ride being 'air shocks' in lieu of coil over's. Kinda wish I had gotten the option now, believe the wife and I would have been way more satisfied with the ride quality. Think an install now would be over $lK, can't go there. If memory serves, that was the information I got from the 'trike shop' in Daytona when they were in business.

The air adjusts the preload only and simply makes it easier to change the preload due to varying loads. The ride itself, IMO, is solely dependent on the shock.

You have either the straight coil over shocks with manual adjustment on the shock itself, OR, you have the coil over shock with the adjustable preload from the dash.

If you have the adjustable preload, remember you can also adjust preload on the shock so you might want to check where the shock is set. You have two preload adjustments available and you might need to balance the two out, i.e., set shock to minimum and used dash control to adjust the preload you need. Play with it and see it you can change to better suit your needs.

I'm surprised at your comment about the ride because most RS owners love the ride.

OK, guess I had a bit of misunderstanding about accuride, having said that, easy ride, smoothing out some of the bumps in a bumpy road is relative to each rider, even each passenger. I do not have preload adjust, that was disconnected at time of build. My suspension is coil over shocks with a manual adjustment, spanner wrench either loosening or tightening the spring. The spring has has been run out as far as it will go, so there you have it.

Maybe I expect too much from the word 'smooth', and I can live with whatever it is, I always think of it from the passenger perspective I suppose. Interstate riding is smooth as silk on my RS, so that tells me something, but with three wheels, there are not many road bumps can be avoided. Now, I've not ridden any other trike brands, so I can't compare, however, I have ridden the Spyder, now there's a fine suspension from the road up that I consider really smooth, even over the rough roads. That's just my opinion, but the wife agrees.....Not promoting Spyder here, 'cause that machine has a lot of problems, again, in my opinion.

Trikes naturally ride rougher than bikes because we are hitting everything in three tracks in the road. A bike only hits one and an auto only two.

I haven't ridden a Can Am yet as Momma says I'm not bringing it home no matter what. She hates the looks of all wheel trikes regardless of brand. Our club is getting more and more Spyders so I'm going sneak a test ride one of these days soon!

For what it's worth, based on what I've had other owners tell me, Hannigan is the only conventional trike that "might" ride better than a properly set up RS. For instance, my RS is not the smoothest riding because I have it set up for riding the twisties and we're heavy. I have suspension purposely set firm so I'm use to a little more shake, rattle and roll on bad roads. Most roads are just fine but some will drive me nuts. ( That's a short trip I've been told.)

Thanks Mike, always respect your opinion, you know of what you speak. Good luck on that Spyder ride, it is impressive, at least it was for me, it is definitely not GW/RS quality but that demo ride touched me, but a demo ride is just that and not a long term ownership. But if Mama doesn't like the thing, that does it. I have also heard that the Hannigan is a top drawer machine, especially that front end design.

    Mike,

Sorry I took so long to get back to you here, about the Accu-ride..... I still even after many requests, have NOT received any return remarks, from my builder about the accru-ride being installed.... So just yesterday, I thought about that I had sent a complete copy to my insurance company back then, So I called my ins co, and they e mailed me back a copy of what I had sent them, AND SURE ENOUGH ON PAGE ONE, I SEE: ACCU-RIDE ---- $800.00 ....Hmmmm, so I went on Roadsmith site and looked up the Accu-ride, and listened to the post.

It did say that once your system is correct, it will not change, but once you put more weight on the back it's supposed to start a pump... I always ride single (wife doesn't ride) BUT today I'm going to ask her to sit on the back with me and see if I do hear a pump making any noise. I have a very funny feeling that I was charged for a $800.00 auto leveling system that I never received or installed.. Because I have not as of yet, ever heard a motor air pump running!

    Ronnie

It's real simple to determine by simply looking at the shocks. There will be a black airline running to the top of the shock as depicted in the RS pictures and video. If you have the air shocks then you have Accuride. Conversely, if you look underneath and you have the chrome springs around the shock then you DO NOT have the Accuride System.

Once you determine you have the air shocks, then proceed with your added weight test. After you turn the key on (I would start engine) it will take 20-25 seconds before the pump will come on by design. If it doesn't, then start looking for the fuse; a five amp, yellow inline fuse. On my trike it was located near the battery on the side as the wire was routed back to the pump.
Wing with Roadsmith kit, Traxxion Ak20 cartridges and Accuride System.

I do not see what you have told me. and have "e" mailed my builder (I'm getting pizz'd off now because he is not answering me or returning my e's) I'm calling him, NOW via landline, and of course being very nice on phone, talking to his staff, and he always seems to be very busy w/ever I call, BUT has of yet, NOT called me back (it's been a good number of weeks now, and no call back....When I call I'm always very, very nice on phone, and never any harsh words, ALL PLEASE & THANK YOU's (I've called maybe four times/BUT he's always too busy to speak to me)

The funny part of this is, BEFORE I had him do the "rebuild", he was always there, never busy, and got to phone faster then a speeding freight train.. He's maybe 2 1/2 hours away from my home, and it's now too cold to ride up there on my bike.. Now that I'm typing this again, I think I'll give him another call ,of course being nice, and see if I get him to speak...If I have to ride up there, I will just have to pull out my "heated clothing" and enjoy the ride.... Life is good!!!

    Mike, "thanks" for your help!

Frank 1st. I want to say that meeting you was a very pleasant surprise, and thanks for introducing yourself that day at Scotties... I only wish that I wasn't in such a rush that day, I would have liked to sit and talk, and get to know each other... Those guys that I ride with are alway in a big hurry..sorry!

Ok I sent another "e" to the builder this morning at 10:15 and it's now 2:45 and I have not heard from him as of yet..... When ever I text him, I'm always very polite, and not at all nasty, so he has no reason, to not to answer me back, But he is doing it...I am starting to get a little pissed off now, it been six e mail,s and when I call he always seems to be very busy and no time to speak to me (but when I called about ordering the trike kit, he was there F.A.S.T).. I'm waiting till tomorrow then I'll call him again....And of course I'm very nice on the phone..

I just may take the ride Wednesday up to see him, (even though I have winterized the bike last week, there's really no reason why I can't take her back out for the ride..So before I mention any company names on the webb, I really want to speak to this builder personally... Then if I'm not happy after speaking, then I'll start mentioning names on the webb..

    Ronnie
