    Default In Mesquite

S0 this morning I was throwing last minute stuff into the trike before I hit the road ... plenty of room for the laptop, so, I brought it.

Left early, like 6 am, was 46*, but the electrics were doing their job, I was pretty toasty.

Set the cruise on 73 mph and headed for Utah.

Got to Green River Utah, and filled. not much between Grand Junction and Green River and less between teen River and Salina. 107 miles of Utah desert.

So first fill in Green River I had gone 111 miles and needed 3.198 Gallons = 34.71 mpg.

Next fill, Richfield, Ut. 124 miles and needed 3.590 gallons = 34.54 mpg.

Next fill Cedar City, Ut. 107 miles and needed 2.981 gallons = 35.89 mpg.

Last fill for the day, Mesquite, NV. 94 miles and needed 2.288 gallons = 41.08 mpg.

Except for a few miles near St. George where there was construction, I had the cruise set ayt 73 mph, which put the tack right at 3k.

So far for the trip I'm averaging 36.69 mpg.

About the Mighty Mites, at 73 mph and ambient temp at 66 from about 8am until noon when I came down from Cedar City, the ET as read by the power Vision never got over 211* and that was on a pretty long climb just outside St. George. Mod=st of the time it hung around 205*.

As soon as i left St. George and was in Arizona, the ambient temp climbed rapidly to 94*. Still set at 73 mph, except for a few miles in the Virgin River Canyon, the ET as read by the Power Vision never got over 218*. I was a tad warm, but, the trike was cool as cool be.

My air deflectors came yesterday, but, not the Tank Lift. My plan is to do the two installs at the same time. Kind of weird, I ordered the tank lift before the air deflectors. i'm guessing since the cnc cut tank lifts are new, maybe they are back ordered???

i'm guessing with the tank lift and the air deflectors, the Fat Bottom Girl will run really cool.

I did the air hawk swap every other tank ... worked well, did the 436 miles with hardly a pain or cramp. All in all, considering it was mostly highway ... pretty fun trip.

Tomorrow i'm planning to do the Extra Terrestrial Highway. Gonna leave early, and be back to the hotel between noon and one .... gonna hang around the pool awhile then go gamble some.

Not sure what the days after that will have in store ... gonna play it by ear.

The Fat Bottom Girl is filthy, but, no sense cleaning her now ... this is bug season. I'll get some pictures of her before i wash her .. gonna be a good test of the ceramic stuff.

Glad to see the trip is off to great start and the trike is running so well. Still enjoying those E Series pipes? I loved’em because I couldn’t hear them going down the highway.

Nice Report. Good to hear that the trikes performing well, running cool and your comfort level is very good too.

    Default Scared Myself

So ... i woke this morning at 5:30, already 78*. Sure is hot here. I was looking to get the GoPro set up for the Extraterrestrial Highway run. And i realized the cord that came with the Harley charger thing is perfect for my needs.

This gadget plugs into the usb adapter, has a plug that charges the GoPro battery two pack, a cord that charges the phone and one that I'm not sure what it will fit.

Okay, so on to my scare.

I headed out to go to Rachel, Nv. Somewhere I made a wrong turn. So i stopped in a gas station to look at my notes, and the trike was making some God Awful noise. Since I was only 30 miles from the hotel, I decided to turn back. Got to the hotel and it was still doing it, but only at idle. It ran great at speed. Anyway, I finally dawned on me what it was .. the system that shuts off the rear cylinder. I disabled that and voila, all better.

So, since I was already a couple hours behind schedule, I decided to head for St. George, get an In & Out burger for lunch and just meander. Ended up back at the hotel around 6:30. I must be getting old. The heat and the dry air kicked my b$tt. Not even gonna gamble tonight. Went to one of the casinos and got a prime rib dinner .. really good.

The ET as read by the power vision never got over 218*. even with the ambient at 96*. I can't believe I ever doubted the effectiveness of the Mighty Mites.

My plan is to start early tomorrow and do the Rachel run. Thursday and Friday are supposed to be high winds, so they maybe gambling days .. .

I did get an email from Dawn at DK, the 1" tank lift was indeed back ordered and she was off Friday so didn't get a chance to tell me. Not a biggie as i am not home to install it anyway. They were shipped today, so all good. Ya gotta love a company that takes care of you like that.

The trike continues to run amazingly, got 37.23 mpg in my meandering trip. Anything over 33 is gravy as far as i'm concerned. I suspect It'll drop off when I head home. For one thing, I'll be going back to altitude and that does affect it. And, I'll be climbing most of the way to I70. But, I'm good with how it's doing.

I did get a picture of the juicy bugs ...

All for now ... having a ball and loving the trike.

Yea I'm loving the E-series ... except for one thing ... they are so quiet at an idle, without a helmet I can hear the Mighty Mites.

Nope, I thought around 3000 miles would be a bit much for his first pet palace ride. Plus, it's friking hot here, like 98* today.

The ET was only like 210*, but, ambient temp was like 86*. I think I remember the EITMS comes on regardless of ET when the ambient is above either 80* or 85* on the 14 and above.

Okay, so today I had a trip to the Extraterrestrial Highway planned. Wanted a picture of the sign with the trike. Wanted one like this one of the 11 Ultra.

Alas, like everything else in America, graffiti and bumper stickers have ruined that too.

But I did get the picture ... I left the hotel at first light, about 5:45. It's Like 110 miles to the sign, but it was already 79*. I opted for shorts with a light jacket, mostly for wind. I also wore sneakers and a white HD 1/2 helmet. By time I got to the sign, it was 84*. So I took the jacket off. I have two pair of long pants with me, a light weight nylon "jogging" pair and a pair of jeans. Should have brought the light weight ones ... got a touch of sun were my knees were exposed to it. Kind of pink, but they will be tan in a day or so, I get really dark, my mom says it my Chec blood, sure isn't my father's English blood ... he burned like bacon in a pan.

Anyway, after that I decided to head towards Vegas ... kind of a mistake. was like 98*. Should have stayed in the desert hills, was only 94* there.

With the EITMS disabled the Fat Bottom Girl ran great. No issues. More wind today and for some reason, seemed like it was in my mush the whole way. I only averaged 34.34 mpg, but, I did do 70 mph most of the day. Total miles was just over 300. I didn't stop at the Alien Inn since I was going to Vegas. Was going to go to the Rio for the sea food buffet, but it was already getting hot so I just headed back up 15 to Mesquite. I might go get the Prime rib again, we'll see.

Anyway, I plan to start a meandering run tomorrow ... not sure where I'll end up or if they will have WiFi or what ever. was thinking about a highway 550 or is it 50, the loneliest highway thing, but with temps so high, might not be good for my health. Could do Bryce, Zion, maybe the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Might need the electrics for that ... LOL, it's chilly up there.

I will decide later, for now, it's gonna be meandering.

    Default Trip cut short

Welp, got a call from mom last night.

My little guy was giving her a very hard time and she was getting frustrated with him.

So, I decided to pack up and head home. Also made the decision to pull the trigger on this

I'm convinced that if I need to, I'll be able to modify it to work. I'll be able to have the tour pak in the "normal" OEM position when the pet palace is not on the trike, and 3" back when it it is. Wanting to take the little dude with me was huge in this decision, but the clincher was last night I had an urge to play some pai gow and black jack, so I did. I ended up winning $900 total. I won $450 at black jack and $300 at pai gow. I also won a drawing they did by drawing a seat and table on the table game floor. The winning draw was Par Gow #4, which is where I was sitting. So after expenses, I ended up with just over $!!00 more than I left with. So, wasn't terrible that I needed to cut it short.

Woke at 4am ... had a couple cups of coffee while loading up the trike. Since I wasn't stopping anywhere except for fuel, I just strapped the bags to the passenger seat. Gave me better room to put the electrics in the trunk. At 4 am it was 77* in Mesquite. I knew when I got to Cedar City, that would drop like a rock and wanted easy access to them.

I was right. At my first fuel stop, Cedar City, the temp was 54*. Put the electrics on and was toasty. That lasted until Green River, Ut. At that fuel stop, It was 81* so off they came. Did the last leg with a light jacket.

Okay, so the trip was just over 1500 miles. I averaged 35.12 mpg. On highways, I set the cruise at 73 mph (even when it was an 80 mph limit in Utah. I kept a close eye on the ET as read by the power vision, never went above 228* and that was at that was between Salina and Green River, UT. Temps were climbing to the 80's. It is also a particularly mountainous 105 miles. Lots of climbing and descending. I did all of it in 6th. Was kewl to watch the trike just pull up the steep climbs. This may not be the fastest Harley I've ever owned, but, it is near the top in the overall touring category. Probably get just a tad better with the air deflectors and the tank lift. Also, the tour pak relocator will make it more versitle.

Anyway, I'm home, my little buddy is very glad I'm home (so is mom). Harley plays her like a fiddle (actually, me too). Looks like if I want to meander anymore, I'll be taking the little man. And that's okay with me.

The tank lift will be here tomorrow, so Friday will be a polish day for the tank lift and catch can. Install day, for my CVO style adjustable passenger floor board mounts and maybe the new to me style highway peg mounts. Wasn't sure about the fit of those to my legs, so I waited. I'm hoping they will put my legs out a little farther, but not too far. It will make the switchblades more functional.

    New to me mounts:

I'll do my normal post about those installs.

After that, I plan to start buffing out swirls marks on my truck, then doing the ceramic I ordered. probably do the ceramic on the polished pieces too.

So that is what is new.
