So far no engine work but clutch housing switch and replace cooling fan.But knowing HD if a engine problem would arise it wouldn't surprise me for them to blame the relocation kit.

Oh My! We're on the road and I just saw this.

    It is helpful to know:

The passageways that the oil flows through in the engine are very small compared to the hoses that HD uses on their oil coolers, which are the same size we use on our Dual Cool oil cooler and oil filter relocation. (the pipes (read bigger wire for a longer run, and there is no drop in voltage) are plenty large enough to accommodate the few feet)

HD oiling is a relatively low pressure set-up. 25-45 PSI. (this is a little higher PSI than the Twin Cams). The pressure is not nearly as important as the flow. At an idle PSI is 15-20.

We have done extensive testing (as we do on all our products) of the oil filter relocation, both on the Twin Cam AND the M8's, BEFORE making them available.

There is NO drop in oil pressure with the Dual Cool Oil Cooler, or the Oil Filter Relocation on the M8's.

Additionally, there is no perceptible increase of a load on the oil pump with either of the products.

On a dyno this was fairly easy to test. Some pulls without the Cooler or filter relocation, then some pulls with it. If it were putting a load on the pump we would see it.

When we tested different oil filters, some of them are more difficult to push the oil thru the filtering media...those put more load on the oil pump, and we saw it on the dyno.

Most folks that work in the service dept of an HD dealership, may be well intentioned, but do not seem to have basic mechanical common sense. It is a said state of affairs.

My bikes/Trike are mine. I am not going to follow their "It's normal, they all do that" and end up having a doggy performing bike that eventually has to be taken in for warranty work because it self-destructed. (been there, done that)

I run an oil filter relocation on all my bikes....and because I know that HD can be sketchy on honoring their warranty, if I have a warranty problem that is engine related, I will take the 30 minutes to remove it before taking it in for a warranty claim.

Unlike exhaust, or some other mods, the oil filter relocation is very easy to remove, taking a screw driver, an allen wrench, and an open end wrench.

While we have thousands of Twin Cams running the oil filter relocation, we only have a few hundred M8's so far. But there are enough that are running them with no issues, that anyone that wants healthier, cooler engine & oil along with easier oil changes, should feel comfortable with it.

On the M8's if you're going to have oil pump problem, or oil migration problem, it is going to happen, with or without the Dual Cool or Oil Filter Relo.

I really don't see that there would be a problem, but it being a new bike, I'm gonna play by their rules until warranty runs out. As far as removing the parts to take in for warranty, that is a no-go for me at my age/physical condition..... that getting on the ground and back up just does not work any more

I meant to address that in my earlier post...almost everywhere has Indy shops that, usually, have better mechanics than the "techs" at dealerships. Not trying to talk you into anything, but that is an option.

Plus, taking it off is a lot easier than putting it on. It can all be done while sitting on a stool or chair.

I believe it would be just as easy away from home. I am in a motel right now. I could take the chair I'm sitting in right now out to the Trike.

I could remove the oil filter from the relocated position.

Then loosen 4 hose clamps, pull the hoses off the bike, unscrew the adapter, install the filter into the stock position. ALL while sitting in the chair.

It is not that easy to install...installing does take some care and getting down on the ground to route the hose...but that is not what we're talking about...it's a cinch to remove.

Thank you Kevin. You've confirmed what I suspected about the extra hose length and the pump's ability to deal with it.

Next oil change the filter adapter and hoses get put on.

Kevin, I hope you and Mary are having a fun ride! The weather looks pretty good out West right now.

In terms of the oil relocation issue and as much as I really like your products and company's service, I hope people are aware of the bet they are making when they install a filter relocation kit on an M8 engine. In my eyes, it is potentially a $7-10 thousand dollar bet that someone is potentially making if they have a modified M8 and break down in an area where they cannot remove the oil relocation hardware before having the bike taken to a dealer.

Unfortunately and especially if the M8 engine's problems are related to oil pump issues and/or oil scavaging issues, I can just about bet the farm that the HD dealer would red flag the bike and the owner would be out a large sum of money to repair/replace the M8 engine. Anecdotal stories by some of our fellow trikers are fine in terms of having no problems, but in the event that they are caught out and unable to remove the apparatus, it is going to be a very expensive lesson that will be learned about the earnestness of the MOCO not covering aftermarket engine mods.

The MOCO is experiencing pretty severe economic pressures at the current time and I can just about guarantee my fellow riders that they will be looking for any excuse to save a large chunk of dough on warranty/ESP repairs if possible.

And that is my concern. I think that attitude will come back around to bite them in the ass, but like all huge corporations now days, once the bean counters get a foothold, the company looses its ability to see beyond the short term bottom line and the next shareholders meeting......

Since flow is more important than pressure on a H-D engine, could you tell us which filters are the least restrictive? When you have time - enjoy your trip first.

Thanks, we're having a great time. Hoping to update the Ride Report Thread tonight!

Regarding not being able to remove the oil relocation hardware on the road....I cannot think of anything easier to do. With exhaust, you will need to locate some stock mufflers. With an air cleaner, you will need to locate a stock air cleaner.

What is so nice about the dual cool oil cooler AND the oil filter relocation is that there are no parts you would need to locate. It is a simple matter of loosening 4 hose clamps, pulling the hose, and replacing the puck with the oil filter you already have.

In a hurry it could be done in 15 minutes, taking your time, 30 minutes. No getting on the ground, no parts to replace. Even if you don't carry tools, it is a matter of buying a screwdriver, or borrowing one.

Almost any other mod you do to your bike will be more difficult than removing the oil filter relocation.

    Here ya go- http://www.dkcustomproducts.com/outl...k-ocof-crm.htm

They come in polished or black.

I am running the same one of my current '14 TG that I had on my '11 TG and on another bike before that. It has over 150,000 miles on it and works as good as the day I started using it. I've saved a ton of $, have a better running bike and cleaner oil.

Default Dual Cool Oil Cooler with the Oil Filter Relocation on the M8's.

Just installed the the Dual Cool Oil Cooler and the Oil Filter Relocation kit on my 2017 Tri Glide. My intension was to buy a dipstick with temperature gage. The Harley dipstick, according to their website, does not fit the 2017 and up Tri Glide. Does anybody have a source for one that will work?

I think JES Custom Accents make dipstick thermometers that will fit...analog (dial). and either oil filled or air filled. Approx $140 - $150.

Yes, they do have those. That is what I am running on my 2019 Tri Glide. First one went bad in less than a year, but I let them know and they sent me another one. It is still working well after over a year.
