She really likes not having to "climb up into the truck". She has figured out that she can put one leg in and then "slide" in.

The only issue ... she sits there and says, "What's that button do? What's that switch do? What's that lever do?"

I always answer, "I have no idea."

Filled again today ... 284 miles ... a trip to Montrose 110 miles roundtrip (mostly 60-65 mph) to get Long John Silvers, some highway miles trip to the Utah boarder, 64 miles round trip (75 mph), the rest was all in town. When I filled it was between 1/2 and 3/4 of a tank. Got 24.95 MPG ... I am liking this ... in the Tonka Toy (Toyota Tacoma) best I ever got was on the way to Kerrville, 21.8 mpg, and that was going from Gunnison to Santa Fe ... downhill and 60-65 mph.

This thing has a MPG gauge ... shows average and "real time" ... on the highway at 75 mph, on a flat stretch I saw 33 mpg for about 4 miles with the cruise set ... that is wishful thinking, but I can dream ...

    Default First Flat in Years

Woke this morning and went to get the paper for mom .... she likes the adds.

When looking at my Jeeps right rear tire, it looked very low. Haven't felt well in a few days so at first I thought it might be me. On the way back, I looked again and it really looked low. Went and got the key, started the Jeep and checked the TPM system ... 16# on that tire.

Even though I didn't feel like it ... took it to Big O and sure enough, a screw in the tire. Good news, in the tread.

    A good solid repair

We used patch plugs only, this repair has become a standard pretty much every where now

    Default Birthday Present

So for my birthday, Mom purchased me some Weathertech Window Vent Shades for the Jeep. I had these on the other Jeep and really liked them. I've had them awhile, just haven't really felt up to playing with them.

Happy to announce the creepy crud is finally gone and it is in the 60's today. So out I went to install them and some other little project on her.

First was the Window Vent Shades ... really easy to install and look really good. We get very hot and very dry in the summer here, so it's nice to be able to crack all the windows to let the heat out without the worry of a late night unpredicted rain getting the inside wet.

Right Rear, sorry about the fat guy if the reflection:

Next I wanted to play with the medium brown leather dye that I bought to "dye" the surface cracks in the seat leather and the center arm rest that is worn quite a bit.

    Before:

You can see how faded it is. In the background you can see a spray bottle in the door cup holder. I put a 50/50 mix of isopropyl alcohol and water. I use this to melt ice in the mornings. Works very well. Didn't do pics of the seats, these were very minor cracks and kind of insignificant, but, they came out well.

While I was waiting for the leather dye to dry, I played with programing the "Home Link" on the Jeep to open the garage door without a remote. This kind of stuff usually kicks my b$tt, but, in this case I was able to do it first try ... way kewl.

After, I wiped off the excess and put some leather preservative on it ... might do another coat later:

    Name: After.jpg

Next, I figured out how to program my new (off eBay) fob to position the pedals, seats, steering wheel position and mirrors based on which fob I grab. Since I am the only driver, they both set everything the same, because both memory positions in the car are set the same. The only reason I needed to figure it out, is when I grab the new fob, the car didn't know what memory position to set it too, so it didn't. This thing is so sophisticated that when you turn it off, it moves everything to positions that make it really easy to get out of the car, including lowering the car suspension height, very nice. When the fob is "linked" to a memory position, it returns everything to the set position it's linked to. Way kewl.

Lastly, I did start on polishing the chrome trim with Mothers as a first step to doing the ceramic coating. Got the sides done, still need to get the front and rear done. Amazing how tired your fingers get rubbing on that narrow of a trim.

Default Guinevere's First Snow at my house

Okay ... the weather guessers were calling for 1-2" last night, so since I needed to take the Harley Man to the groomers, I planned ahead and got up early. He needs to be there by 7:30, not 7:35 ... th groomer has earned the nick name "Hiddy Hitler". She's great with the dogs, but, to so much with the people if you break her rules. I tend to drift off track ... sorry.

In my end of town, we got close to 5", as measured with a tape on my wood shed, of heavy wet snow. It was 45* when I went to bed, so the first of what we got, melted then turned to ice. Took me an hour to shovel a "Path" to the Jeep and clean off the wet heavy snow. I used a full spray bottle of isopropyl alcohol and water (50/50 mix) to get the ice loose. Next I realized I had left the snow brush/ice scraper in the Toyota. I found a nylon broom I used to use for cleanup when I did pool repairs, banged it on the fence to get debris off it and was able to get 90% of the ice off the window. Sprayed the remaining 10% with the alcohol and went in to get the Harley Man ready.

Harley is terribly spoiled (my fault, what can I say, he's my bud), so I had to put his Harley Jacket on him and carry him. So I get him in his car seat (Yea I know), and started the Jeep to get on the road.

Put then Jeep in "Snow Mode" and headed out. Barely got 10 feet when I was assaulted by multiple "Beeps". Apparently, you have to clear off the "sensors" as well. Who knew??? So, I got then all cleaned off and started out again. The Jeep is awesome in the snow, figured it would be. If you get crazy ... it will slip and slide, but, you be sane, it does very well.

I once again got assaulted by the "Beeping". Pulled into a parking lot and there was water from melting snow that had froze on a couple of the sensors. Cleaned it off and all was well again. I think I may be doing ceramic on the sensors soon, hoping to keep them clean. We don't get lots of snow days, but, it's pretty annoying when you do.

Other than the "Beeping", I'm very pleased with the rig.

Okay .. so I broke out the "Encyclopedia of All Things Guinevere" (Owners Manual), and figured out what to do about the incessant beeping. There are three options:

    1) Live with it.

    2) Clean the snow/dirt off all the sensors, front, back and sides.

    3) There are two buttons on the dash, PA (Parking Assist) and FCW (Forward Collision Warming), that when pushed to turn off, will silence the beast.

At least now I know what those two do.

    Default Happy Thanksgiving to Me

I can't think of any reason why you can't give presents on Thanksgiving, so I gave myself a bug & stone deflector for the Jeep.

Came yesterday, but didn't get it installed until today ... easy pezzy ... Weatertech makes a great product and the instructions were perfect.

    Looks good Alan

Had one on my Surburban. As they deflect the wind over the roof.

Being a big user of rain-x , I had to remove it so the air removed the rain.

Had one on a ‘98 Mountaineer. Worked great for deflecting bugs off the windshield... til a buzzard took it out one day. Never replaced it...could sure tell the difference of “with” and “without”. Bug goo city. I’ve not noticed them on vehicles in the last several years...interesting that you can still buy them and no one seems to.

    Default Dent Repair

Well we have a guy in town that is in my opinion a magician ... LOL.

When I bought the Jeep, it had a dent on the drivers side rear to the left of the hatch. I knew it was there, it had no bearing of the function of the vehicle.

    Name: Dent.jpg
Views: 199
Size: 145.9 KB

I factored it into the deal and felt I was ahead. I put a reminder in my phone to determine if I thought it was worrisome enough that I needed to "fix" it. The alarm went off yesterday, and I reviewed my thought process. Although I wouldn't spend $$$$ to have a body shop fix it. I'm mostly about function, not looks. When I do things like Ceramic coating, it's not to make it pretty as much as it is to make it protected and easier to keep clean. So, after hashing it over in my mind. I call Dent Busters ... LOL ... I have used this guy for several years on many vehicles. He has contracts with 90% of the car dealers to repair their "trade ins" dents, Obviously, he doesn't do it for the small independents, like the one I bought Guinevere from, or it would of been fixed. Those dealers work on a much lower margin, which is why I like them.

So I called Mike at Dent Busters. He informed me that he would come by later in the day and take a look.

He gave me a call later and said he was on his way. He got there, took a look at it and said he couldn't make it "perfect" because of the location and that it would require a drilling of a hole into to inside with the hatch up, sideways to allow him access. He would then touch up the paint around the hole, silicon it and put a plug in the hole. This will be in the area inside the hatch seal when the hatch is closed.

Next I asked him the biggie, how much? He told me he still gets $80 an hour and he guaranteed it wouldn't take more than an hour. That since he carries a "multimillion dollar bond", if the paint cracked, he would not charge me and would get the Chrysler Dealership to repair the paint. He also said because of where it is located, most of Guinevere would need to be painted to match the paint. He told me if that happened, I could negotiate to have the entire Jeep painted. He also said, if I wasn't happy that the repair was good, no charge. He then handed me a signed guarantee. Pretty bold guarantee.

Since I have had less than good luck with car painting, I told him. "I was hoping it didn't come to that". He smiled and said, "It never has, I'm pretty good at figuring when my process will work and when it won't". He told me only one customer in 34 years has asked for their repair to be free. So $80 for the repair. And I was happy to let him try.
