Default Questions about the new Fat Bottom Girl

It is a 2008 NAVI Gold Wing with a 2010 (I think) Champion Sold axle conversion.

    Here's the questions:

Answered - Where would I find the Champion label plate that gives the manufacture date? I'm guessing it's a 2010 because of some purchase paperwork that came with it. Could just be a sale contract as it doesn't mention the trike kit.

Partially Answered - Where do most people hide their garage door opener? On Tweety, I Velcro'd it under the dash. With the added dials for seat and grip heat, that spot is gone.

Answered - I know the left saddlebag release opens the trunk, On my remote, I can lock the bike, top case and trunk, I can quick release the top case, the unlock button doesn't work. Is this a function of the conversion or is my remote or receiver bad? Maybe a fuse?

Answered - I am running 40 psi in the front tire and 30 psi rear. Are these good numbers?

Answered - My favorite grips are the Kury Iso Grips, I've put them on every bike/trike I've owned since they came out. Has anyone tried the ones that fold over the heated grips? And if so, does the heat still come through?

As my only other trike was an HD Tri, are there any adjustments to oil dip stick levels, coolant levels, etc. that I need to know based on the trike not leaning on the side stand?

Is there a way to update the maps on the NAVI like the HD plan? Through Garmin?

Answered- What do Gold Wingers call the top case (BMW term), Tour Pak (HD term), On Tweety, I just called it a trunk, but, with the massive "Trunk" on this trike, calling its the trunk just doesn't seem right.

Answered - There was also a little silver key with a square head ... I can't figure out what it does.

Answered - Last but not least, does anyone know what this is? I found it in the Top Case. I'm not sure whether it us part of the trike. It's not even the same pearl white. guessing it's the PO's idea of a joke ... LOL

I had a bunch more questions to ask, but, did a short ride today and played with all the buttons. I even figured out how to program Home into the NAVI, although I used a house down the block ...

The tire pressures usually depend on your personal preferences, riding style and some experimentation. 40 psi in the front may be a bit harsh. My personal preference works best in the 37 to 38 cold psi range. As for the rear tires, I have found 24 to 25 cold psi works the best for me.

I have the Kury Iso Grips mounted over the existing heated grips. The grip will take much longer time to heat up. Higher heat settings are also required.

I have heard all kinds of terminology used to call the top rear storage compartment. I don't know what is correct. I do know the kit installer corrects me all the time when I use the term "Top Trunk". He insists the correct terminology is a "Tour Pack". He also calls the large bottom storage compartment a "Trunk". I like to call it the "Bottom Trunk". The copilot comprehends "Top and Bottom Trunk" much easier.

The reason I started at 40 psi in the front was because on a two wheel GW, my dealer recommends 40# to minimize wear. I'll lower it to 38# and try that. I also thought about 24-25# in the rear because that's what i ran in the tri. I figured bump it upside because the GW trike is heavier. (I think, not really sure about that.

I like top trunk and bottom trunk ... Fat Bottom Girl already has lots o' junk in her trunks.

I contacted Champion on their web site. Got a very nice reply from Bill Swift. He told me he would send me a maintenance guide and install instructions via email. He also told me where to look for the manufacture date. FYI it's located on the swing arm right side. Metallic sticker with numbers starting in 7. The remaining numbers are the date.

Did I miss a question about the key? Or what. Trike Lady showed a modified key used in the gas lid and secure storage release locks. This will not open the trunk release or operate the ignition. I've used these on all three GL1800s I've owned.

As mentioned earlier, tire pressure is a personal thing. Depending on riding style and desired comfort level those numbers can be played with. Also the suspension presets will come into consideration for handling and comfort.

There are upgrades for the NAVI maps but I don't know much about that. Someone will chime in that does I'm sure.

After reading their info and reviews I think I might order one of these ... do the car remotes still work or do you need to get a transmitter for them as well?

Thanks ED ... it is sooooo kewl to be back in the saddle again. Still having issues with bugs in my teeth because I just can't seem to stop smiling. Might have to get a tall windshield.

Your existing remotes still works as before. I've slowly replaced my existing remotes thru the years. We have one remote left because the car has LED headlights and I don't want to mess with it.

The F2P receiver wires across your existing open/close button in the garage....

    BTW, nice trike.

Yes ... it's not a static oil level read. It's a dynamic read. Meaning that it must be done by doing the following as the oil is still dripping into the sump area.

    - on a level surface, run at least 3-5 mins

    - tune off and check between the level between the 2-3 min mark

to check ... unscrew the dip stick and have the "MCA" pointed rearward. Do not screw it into check.

Is there a way to update the maps on the NAVI like the HD plan? Through Garmin?

    Here is your option.

That is not an OEM part. I've never seen that in the aftermarket world either.

On page 2 rear tire pressure is 20-25psi. Your front pressure is on a sticker on the underside of the trunk lid. I'm sure it says 36psi.

I got my emails from Champion today. They included an installation instructions and maintenance notes. I was surprised to see 20-25# in the rear. I will lower the pressure to 25# and play with the pressure like I did with the tri.

I also like that they include part # for the rear brake pads, and the right oil for the rear end. Pretty detailed.

Lowering the air to 20 or 22 makes for a softer ride.
