"Umbrella Valve" - scary just 'cause I like the "Resident Evil" Movies or what?

We did a little run for lunch on Saturday -- Tucson to Globe (great burros at "El Rey Cafe"!) then down through Superior & home. About 225 miles round trip. Not bad for lunch! It was me and 2 BMWs...
It is HOT out here; even in the mountain areas. I wasn't too bothered until Dan started making reports when we stopped for water.... On the next trip, I think I might use some black tape and cover the thermometer on the "dashboard" of his (BMW) GS1200..... I did NOT need to know it was 109* when we went past the mine and past the SMELTER..... the RUNNING smelter!!! Other than that, it was great. Nice nice roads and surprisingly little traffic.
Then the trike developed an oil leak on the way home. We stopped for water and there was gooey yuckiness on the side of the battery, and dribbly splashes.... so on the way home we stopped and dropped her off at the garage for a check up. I rode on Dan's backseat the last 2 miles home. (grumble)
The preliminary "parking lot" diagnosis was a bad "umbrella valve." I hope that only sounds ominous because I enjoy the "Resident Evil" movies.......

HAHA!!! Just got the call -- there is NOTHING wrong with my oil. It was the breather tube. HA!! The dork at the shop checked it while cranking hot and not level. This is why I wasn't worried!
BUT -- I have a busted motor mount! Win a few, lose a few....

I concur, i worked out in this heat crap all my life, enuff is enuff, riding las nite, and the low spots were really cool, and the temp on the billboard was 90 with the sun down.

Umbrella Valves

I have a 2004 103" SE engine. I have experienced oil leaks on the right side during extreme heat. I was told the umbrella valves are not adequate on a very hot day with a full crankcase. Oil gets thin and hot and pushes out valve into the air cleaner housing. HD dealer says stronger valves are available if I want the expense...suggest I run 1/2 quart low when extreme heat. Someone on CVO forum suggested taping a sanitary napkin in the air cleaner cover and change it out occasionally. So far running a bit low in extreme heat has worked.

Ive been running a 1/2 quart low on my 11 T/G, Also did that on my Sportster And to a lesser extent with a Spyder i had And that stopped the blow-by into my air filter,
''Unless'' 'I run the engine hard like powering up a hill [55 to 60 thousand RPM's] passing a line of cars, Or too many quick stoplight accelerations....
