Engine Oil Recommendations - 2008 Honda Goldwing Gl-1800

Good evening,

Not trying to start a firestorm, but what oils is recommended for the 2008 Honda Goldwing GL-1800.

The former owners used Royal Purple 20/50W. Never used and don’t know anyone in my circle of motorcycle folks who use it either.

What is your thoughts?

That is good oil, but you should use 10W-40 as recommended by Honda.

I use Amsoil and change engine/transmission oil and filter at 5,000 mile intervals.

Thank you for the response with regards to my oil question.

Oil change interval is a must as we all know from riding everything since 1968.

A friend of mine rode a 2004 GL-1800 and researched the H#*l out of oils and on the wing board (there are several) said Rotella 10/40W made by Shell was superior?

Although most of us use synthetic oils and more frequent oil changes than Honda recommends, just for the record:

You can use standard dino oil with oil and filter changed every 8,000 miles. Viscosity depends on location but 10w-40 is the overwhelming choice.

Personally, I use Honda HP4S 10w-40 and only Honda filters. Oil change every 6,000 miles.

One man who put over 450,000 miles on his Wing used nothing but the cheapest dino oil he could find and changed every 8,000 miles and never required any major engine work. Just saying.
