Why Harley or Why Honda

I am currently without a motorcycle but have owned a Goldwing Trike in the past. I am seriously in the market for another trike hopefully soon. Now I can make a choice of direction, Harley or Honda. ?..? Would value any input from you Harley owners. I am beginning to admire the "leaner" look of Harley, but obviously quality and reliability are paramount factors in any decision. Thanks, appreciate any responses.

Since 1976 we have owned four new two wheeled Gold Wings and have traveled extensively on them. And like other Gold Wing riders we always made fun of the Harley riders in our group when we traveled. You Harley riders know what I am talking about, need a cat box for the oil dripping, park it close to an electrical outlet so you can plug in your battery charger, etc. However, my wife and I always secretly admired the Harleys and decided that we would one day own one. In June we bought our first Harley, a 2013 Tri-Glide and are having a ball on it. It did take some getting used too and even now I still find myself leaning into a curve. Yes it is loud and a lot hotter than the Gold Wings and always sounds like something is broken in the engine before it warms up. However, we have no regrets other than we should have waited a few months until the 2014 models came out. They are really cool. As I said, no regrets. Can't wait until our first big trip.

I'm a Harley guy, and have been for many years. I did own a Honda once and it was a very nice bike with lots of power and very smooth. In my opinion though, the fit, finish and paint of a Honda just does not compare to a Harley.

My brother in law, a big wing guy, took a ride on my Road King Classic last summer. When he got back he looked like an adolescent trying to hide his boner.

In the past two weeks I have sold my 2009 Triglide and my 2008 Goldwing CSC and I am waiting for delivery of my new blue/black 2014. TRI-GLide. Put 20k on Harley and 37k on goldwing. Cannot wait for my new trike.

NUFF SAID:cool:

CONFESSION:

I am a Harley snob! My first 3 motorcycles were British, 2 Triumphs and a Norton. After the military I bought a Honda for a couple of months, then a shiny new 1971 Iron Head. It has been Harleys ever since. I've owned 6, wife 4. Most were bought new. We have dropped big bucks in chrome, paint, and hop up. We have changed wheels, exhaust, cams, heads, tins, paint, bars, pegs, and God knows what else. The Trikes are pretty near stock. We have put a bunch of miles on both. Both have been in 8 or 9 states in the west and south west. We have never been stranded. We haven't crossed the Mississippi..... yet. I just can't picture us on anything else. We have riding buddies on 'Wings. they tease us, we tease them. Their trikes are faster, ours are Harleys!

did someone say they are?? lol

have you ever ridden one?

obviously not gonna get much smoother than a wing but the hd is not as bad at speed as you might think

How in the world can anything, that SHAKES AS MUCH as a Harley, when idle'ing, be as smooth as a goldwing???????????

Think about it!

Ronnie

Hey Ronnie, that OP is 7 years old.

Obama was President. Gas was $4.00 per gallon. Harley's were hot too.

Some things change and some things don't.

Some men like doing needlepoint while others prefer not to ride a sewing machine.

Some people enjoy something B/C they can relate to it (understand it).

That still doesn't explain why people get married though !!:Joker3:

Just a thought on that...If prostitution was legal there would be fewer men getting married..:cxtv:

I've ridden Honda motorcycles all my life and can say without a doubt are very dependable. Bought a Harley Triglide 3 years ago and so far no major issues. The main reason I choose the Triglide is it is a factory unit. My insurance company doesn't like insuring conversions. Love my Honda VTX but love the Triglide too. Makes for two up riding much easier and less tiring.

Good question. Both bikes will serve you well. I have a 2013 TG and love it now that I have made some minor improvements to the suspension. I like the fact that HD is the only OEM making a trike. The others are always kits and that allows some finger pointing if all does not go well with the Mod.

My trike corners as well as a two wheeler and has ample engine performance with a stage 1 kit. (High Air flow and aftermarket exhaust) I base this on my 09 Softail with a 107 Engine, stage 3 heads, 625 cams so I do understand performance and the trike will not need this kind of mods to feel good. I bought the trike in June of this year and have 4300 miles on her without any issues. I do my own maintenance and Harley will not void the warranty as long as you have records.

My suggestion is to RENT a HD Trike for the day. Put 300-400 miles on her and see if you like it.

I would love to rent one. Are you saying Harley dealers normally will rent these out?
