Line X on fender faces

I have a primed Champion kit on order for my 2003 GL1800. I am going to get the Line X bed liner sprayed as undercoat and on the fender faces, is there anyone that can send me pics of the areas that get damaged by rocks etc on the faces. Want to make sure I get enough area on the faces to avoid problems. I'm going to get the Line X applied before I paint the body.

Suggestion solicited.

Subscribed to this thread, I'm intrigued by this LineX thing. I have never discovered a good way to hide a small paint ding. With the wide wheel faces, they seem to catch it all. I've often wondered why the conversion engineers can design a more aerodynamic wheel face. What is the fascination of catching all that wind, and road debris?

I spent a considerable amount of $$'s covering all forward facing surfaces of my conversion and all the surfaces of my weight bearing foot fairings w/3M stone guard. It did a very good job.

Then, I learned about LineX! Watched many threads on several forums! 2 applications that stood out for me.

Color matched and 1 that was a contrasting color done with a flame design as it went over the tops of the fenders.

My point is to answer your question, ie ALL forward facing surfaces of the fenders should be covered, as well as the foot fairings/aqua shields, if you have them.

Watched a few presentations, does this product go on as smooth finish, rough finish, what? How does it look with real finished paint? Say, just getting it done on the fender faces, how well does it integrate with the paint?

I would call it semi-smooth. Some colors can be matched.

"You can use an automotive, non-oil based UV protectant product on the Line-X liner after you wash it to protect it from fading. A spray-on product works well. Even if you had a UV protective coat applied when you purchased the Line-X liner, you can still do this to protect the liner further."

The cleaning instructions pertain to "heavy" use as a bed liner. There are some helpful hints in the link.

Yes, washing it down will keep it clean

I never got it on mine as I already had the 3M Stone guard. However, spraying the whole bike down with 50/50 mix of water and Mean Green, then using the garden hose on it, wipe with a sponge if needed, rinse until all residue is removed. Use leaf blower to dry.

Thanks to everyone for the information. I'm going to put smooth Black on the fender faces because they can't match the Illusion Blue.

Well learned somethin today. I always thought these coatings were removable. You know to preserve the paint underneath. But if you prep with 80 grit its permanent.

There are a few coatings that are but not the bedliners.

Purchase the Line-X "Premium" Coating. It is few dollars more, but well worth it.
