Post Your BMW Trike Pics

Re: BMW Trike Pics

The Dragons on the back rests and the knee pad areas are embroidered. My wife has a Viking Diamond Embroidery sewing maching which we used to do the Dragons. We first had the upholstery cut out in leather then installed after adding the Dragons. The back if the trike also has a mural of a Dragon. I can add that pic but a closeup of the embroidery will need to wait until I get back home. Enjoy.

Love the colors and have been thinking of doing as BMW with the same (but not exact??) colors but a very different looking machine. I am working in partnership with the guys at Tremoto to build their first ever on road quad for my own design company SpeKter Designs. I am expecting a render of the machine in the next couple of months and so I will post it up then.

Would love to see the embroidery closeup. Is it something that you do professionally??

Cheers

BTW Heres a copy of my logo I did a couple of months ago now.

Re: BMW Trike Pics

Hi Folks,
My trike is a 2000 BMW R1100RT with a Lehman conversion.I dont think they made many of these.I have done 80,000Kms(50,000 miles) since the conversion and have had no problems. The kit came with a plate to change the rake.

Re: BMW Trike Pics

2009 K1200LT Hannigan with a little over 35K miles on both the bike and trike conversion. Aux fuel tank holds about 5 gallons.

Have added a few farkles, such as Beadrider seat cushion, Centech AP-2 fuse block, amplified internal antenna, Bakup back rest, luggage box LED running light and turn signal strips, flashing luggage box brake light, LED underbody lighting, and GPS mount with waterproof case. (Oh, yes, and twin Guardian Bells)

So far, only mechanical work has been clutch overhaul, radio repair, battery replacement, new front tire, aux tank fuel pump upgrade, and routine maintenance.

The clutch and radio issues are common to the K1200LT and not really unexpected repairs.

I really enjoy this trike for both long road trips and local commuting.

Thoughts on your new K16 Trike so far?

Excellent build.

Feels VERY solid, just added the armrests (original) without problems at Nicks BMW in Green Bay today.

If you ask me what I would change in future models it would be:

a) The reverse engine is VERY strong, feels lika rabbit when you backup. I should have chosen something that starts a bit slower.
b) The flaps to avoid my feet to get to hot looks silly. I would remove that section like the LT
c) The tail lights - I would have built in two rows - one for running AND turn (no turn at all now) and one row for stop/brake light.
d) Include an option for highway pegs

The good is:
a) Extremely nice quality workmanship, nice details mirrored from the original bike, not much had to be changed of the original look (I know a lot have been changed under the cover!)
b) The lock on the back trunk smart to be covered by rubber
c) Excellent paint job

Re: BMW Trike Pics

Here's a picture of my 2005 LT. I found this in Fargo,ND it had 35586 miles on it. The trike kit was installed about two years before but it was not driven. The trike warranty started at 35500 miles. I'm sure the warranty is over. Since than I had put about 2000 miles on it. It has a very cushy ride and power to spare for what I need.

Re: BMW Trike Pics

Hi Bazooka

The Grinnall is built in the UK as either a turnkey conversion or an owner fitted kit. They also trike the Triumph Rocket 3.

Trikes, Specialist Sports Cars and Kit Car Manufacturer

I believe they will sell kits to overseas customers.

All the best for 2013 and ride free on three!

Tin

Yes there are a few Grinnall 1F/2R trikes in North America along with 30 or so Grinnall Scorpion 111 2F/1R trikes with BMW "K" drivetrains. I had one for a while and it was a blast to drive; much more sophisticated than the T-Rex IMO.

I drove one of these that looks exactly like yours for a couple of hours while visiting the guys at the Hannigan plant last weekend and LOVED it. It will absolutely smoke a Honda GL1800 Hannigan trike. In a roll off drag race starting at 40MPH, the K1600GTL Hannigan Trike ran off and left the GL1800 Trike and steadily pulled away until we backed off at around 90 MPH. This was on a wide open 4 lane on a long straight while crossing Kentucky Lake...It was a beautiful view and lots of fun. After that, Herb (Hannigan GSM) and I rode twisties for an hour, switching between the K1600 and the GL1800. The GTL was very impressive in the twisties, very tight.
