    Default Handle Bar Risers

Was wondering if any of you folks have installed "Handle Bar Risers" on you Goldwing Trikes.

I have a 2012 GL1800 that I would like to move the bars back and up in order to reduce back pain.

I was considering the Kuryakyn set since they move the bars back 2 1/4" towards the rider + 1" higher + 2" narrower. This should be just enough adjustment for me.

Would appreciate your inputs on this subject.

    Thanks for your help

I do not have personal experience with the Kuryakyn risers but have installed MLB risers on my own and several other trikes. Most folk install them to cure the stabbing pain between the shoulders. I put mine on to improve steering. I noticed I was exerting way too much effort pushing down on my handlebars instead of out while steering. Then the light came on!! Installing the 6 degree rake kit lowered the bar ends a bunch.

My handlebars are now closer, narrower, and higher. Every bit of that has vastly improved my steering control and reduced the effort needed to get through some pretty serious twisties!!

Check out the MLB risers as well as the Kury ones. Both are good quality far as I know. Good luck with your pain.

We picked up our trike on April 19th and then we rode over to Pigeon Forge, TN for the district rally. I had some pain in my back and shoulders. I found a vendor there that had the MBL risers and had a set installed. They made a big difference.

I started with the MBL regular risers but changed to the "wide" version as I have broad shoulders and found the regular risers to narrow. Made huge difference from standard bar height after 6 degree rake installed.

Thanks very much for the feedback.

I had the same experience as Jerry on my GL1800 trike. I installed a set of MLB risers and it made the handlebar position much more comfortable. When I had the conversion done from 2 wheels to a trike I didn't put the raked triple trees on but after about a year I bought a set from Papa Zook and installed them in my garage. They made a huge difference in steering effort. If you don't have raked triple trees try the handlebar risers first since they are cheap and a simple install. Then you may want to consider the raked triple trees as they really make a difference on steering effort.

    Good luck,

    Sunman

I already have a 5 degree raked triple tree on my Trike. I figured that the 5 degree rake and then a risers / setback should do the trick.

    Thanks for the response

I too went with the MLB riser set.

It was that or dump the trike. I was that uncomfortable when I took my 1st significant ride without them.

Having recently had some shoulder surgery before buying the trike. I needed a way to move the bars both up and back. What little wiggle room there is was accomplished I feel better with the MLB set then the Kury set would have provided.

I put the Kuryakyn like you mentioned. I love em. Have them on 02 Goldwing trike. Took away all my shoulder and neck pain. Now if I could just get my seat perfect for my bottom

I have the MLB. Easy install. After reading the install directions for the Kuryakyn risers, the

    MLB was a "NO BRAINER".

That's the same exact reason I put on risers and it made no difference. This was when on 2 wheels though.

Make sure yours don't do this. This one came in today. He too has risers, and it appears that his risers are causing the cable/hose covers on the underside of his handle bars to rub his front shelter assembly on each side. My advise to him ... never, under any circumstances, should there be any interference when turning, throttling, or braking. He needs full control of his m/c at all times.

I've not inspected this m/c yet; however, at first glance it does appears the following parts are OEM; triple-tree, handle bars, under-bar covers.

I've never seen any risers do this till now. Some risers are adjustable. Possibly with an adjustment will fix this situation.

Please keep in mind that anytime I share or give advice about a motorcycle, unless I state otherwise, I am always referring to GL1800's and no other.
