    Default DFT Trike's

    I don't see to much on DFT trikes. I just bought a 2005 HD roadking with 1400 miles on it and it rides like a dream , anyone else out there have any comments on these trikes. I'm new to this , I owned a 1975 superglide then I've been away from bikes for 35 years. I got to make up for lost time I guess. Thanks Duke

    I L O V E mine . I have had it since 2001. wife loves the rear seat , it puts her to sleep.

    Test rode one out in Sturgis in 2008. It was a Ultra conversion. It was absolutely a great ride. At the time it was to much money. Great choice you will not be disappointed.

    I owned a Harley and I installed a DFT Kit on it. It was really a great bike.

    I did the conversion back in 1998.

    The DFT is definitely on the top shelf when it comes to trikes. I have had mine for 2 1/2 years and put 33,000 miles on it. All two up. The last 9,000 pulling a trailer. We have had two other conversions and the DFT is head-and-shoulders above those. The ride is very good. It handles bumps and rough roads much better.

    The DFT kit is purpose designed, and manufactured by the people that designed it. All in the USA. It mantains the stock Honda drive train so there is no "fit-up" problems. It only increases the over all weight of the stock GL1800 by 189 pounds.
    I can say, with complete honesty, that if I were in the market for a new trike, I would go straight back to DFT.

    Just my 2 cents.

    I love JOY and Would defend her with my life.

    No really if anything ever happened to the bike part of my trike, i would take the DFT rear end and put it on another trike.

    The lightest easiest rear end on the market.

    This is the way i would have built it, it just makes sense.

    This is not just the Cadillac of rear ends, It's the JAGUAR, Way top end, All aircraft aluminum, and steel. Very strong

    PapaDuke: DFT makes a fine Trike, what body style did you get? Smoothie or did you retain your TourPak and just get the lower unit. Living in Lewiston makes it quite easy to shoot over to Gowanda,N.Y. and see Larry at TriCycles who is the distributor for DFT around these parts, he's a decent guy and also has made quite a few options for the smoothie kit, he's also up @ Americade every June doing Demo rides with Leon the owner of DFT.....

    DFT was not at americade this year ??? If I can afford it I will make my next trike a DFT. all I do is grease the fittings every 3 years or so and ride the wheels off it. .Being that it is 50% Gold Wing original parts MPG and Speed etc, has not changed that much . Only 185lb more than the 2 wheeler.

    I have a '97 Valkyrie Smoothie for the past eight years...20,000 plus miles...absolutely no problems whatsoever...best ride..best engineering..best manufacturing...the Cadillac of Trikes...worth a few more bucks!

    My DFT is On an 03 FatBoy. I think the kit must be an older model, I've not seen another one like it on a Harley. I previously owned a 2004 V-Rod w/a MotorTike kit - also an awesome trike but the DFT is my favorite for ease in handling, great suspension, and twice the trunk space.

    Not sure what model DFT kit you have. Mine is on a 1997 Goldwing . My trunk is large enough to carry 5 folding canvas golf chairs.( the kind you can buy ay Wally World for $10.00). Have had it since 99 and performers flawlessly .

    Thanks for the warm welcome Gorilla. While we're on the DFT subject, I'm hoping to get some input on how I can secure my trunk. (I'm thinkin' my kit was marketed for the Valkyrie and modified for my FatBoy) As you can see, my trunk opens from the top which I find really cool but -- the downside is that there is no locking mechanism. The trigger that opens it is fairly well hiddned but I'd like to find some kind of switch that I can operate using a key fob - kind of like the shaved doors you see on some of the custom hot rods.

    Does anyone have a similar need or solved this issue? I'm hoping some of my new triker friends can suggest something that would help me better protect my trunk content. I welcome all ideas.

    the hot rod comunity has some remote controled trunk and door solenoids or even a tour pack style lock would probably work also many bikes us a key opperated cable for seat locks but probaby wont find anything a direct fit without some modifications

    I have the DFT kit on my '08 GL1800 and love it. 25k miles and no serious problems. But the front tire is nearly ready for replacement again. And the rear tires rumble and pound the tar snakes. Tire pressure is per Honda specs.
    Who has experience with quieter rear tires? and front tires the don't hop around the curves?

    I have a DFT I have a pilot Activ rear bias ply tire on front aT 40# air. Rear tires are Goodyear mileage plus. With 21 lb in each. Start at 26 lbs in the rear and decrease until you like the ride. Don't be afraid to go as low as 20 lbs.
