    Default Need InSight into Decision

Thinking of trading my 2016 TriGlide with 21,000mi in for a 2019. I have a lot of money invested in 2016 TriGlide approx $60K. I have been offered $25K for my bike and since I am retired, I will get the strip down version of 2019 TriGlide. Am being stupid for scratching this itch or is there such a difference between the two years that I should go for it.

    Thanks for any input!

    My Trike:

From my 'for what it's worth' department...

I have a 15 that I've dialed into exactly what I want it to be. It rides good, looks good, and feels good. Like you, I've added thousands of dollars worth of options that I'm just not willing to give up. At this point, I wouldn't trade even for a new model. One thing about Harleys...no matter how old, they are kind of kind Volkswagens, in that parts to fix them are plentiful, and they can always be made almost new again.

Whether this has helped or not, I don't know, but there you are.

Default As I Guy who loves new toys

As my signature suggests (along with Lola & Paws ... LOL) I am prone to new or at least new to me toys. I love making them unique almost as much as I like riding them.

But, I'm convinced that Harley has dangled the carrot in front of me for the last time. My new to me Fat Bottom Girl is what I've always wanted and now I am at a point where I can just ride and enjoy her ... well ... maybe just adorn her with an occasional trinket or two ...

In the final reel, the decision is yours and yours alone ... your ride is gorgeous, and unique ... but like all decisions ... follow your heart.

You obviuosly want something different than what you presently have. You have the means and the desire, just do it. From a practical point of view I see no advantage.

There are advantages such as ABS, traction control, improved rear shocks and the new BoomBox. Only you can tell if they are worth a trade. Tough decision.

As for me I had a 2016 and got rid of it, bought a 2018, wished I would have kept the 2016, had it fixed the way I wanted, bad thing I left them on the bike, now I have to buy all again for the 2018. I like the 2018 but just wished I would have kept the 2016, it was out of warranty and was getting ready to put a trailer hitch on it when I got rid of it. As for the 2018 the hitch is out of question because of warranty and with the troubles the M8 is having I won't be able to do it and keep the warranty for now at least.

Ok, if the itch is big go for it, as we all know whatever we put on the bike doesn't bring any more money on trade, take what you can off for the 2019 if it will fit, will help a little anyway, as Kevin from DK he low balled them and they took it. I think if I had $60,000 in it if that is what you mean I would keep the 2016 with only 21,000 miles or so and keep riding it, that is me. Your bike, your decision, I gave you something to think about and that is what you are wanting from us, our thoughts on this

All for now Trampas ( you have a good looking bike right now )

When I traded my 16 for my 19 I really wasn't planning on doing it in advance. I didn't have anything close invested in my 16 to what you have though either. Gave just over $28,000 late in the model year and probably added $1,500 worth of bling, some of which I could swap over. At just over 20,000 miles it was still a great ride.

Then I saw my 2019 in a showroom and discovered it had the 114. I am embarrassed to say I hadn't been keeping up on what changes Harley had made to the 2019 Trikes because I wasn't interested, I had my final ride.

I took a test ride and it was a done deal. At just over 5,000 miles I am still enjoying riding my 19 more than the 16, and I loved riding the 16!

Good luck with your decision. If you do trade I'm guessing your 16 will be sold before you ever leave the dealership.

    Default ALIMONY

The good thing about trading up to a new (or newer) Harley is that you do not have to pay alimony to the old bike.

    Default Over Priced

I am assuming you want an opinion based on what we would personally do. I have looked at the price tag on a 2019 and all I can do is shake my head. This and the fact that they have tightened up the warranty to make sure you have to go back to the Mother Ship for Mods. There is little you can do for heat management so there is no way the engine life is going to be there compared to what you can do for performance and heat management on the 103. The cost of a 2019 is comparable to a mustang convertible. Something tells me there is something wrong here when you consider the difference in the amount of material it takes to build each. I really can't see justification for taking a $35,000 loss for 14 more cubic inches.

Just my opinion. Good luck with your decision.

Go out for a good ride, stop every 50 miles ask yourself this question, “What do you not like or can improve upon to make it more enjoyable” write it down and go ride some more. Once you have your list sit down with only one cold beverage. Ask yourself do I really want a new ride or pick a trike that you have spent your hard earned time and money to make yours.

In the end, all of us want new toys new technology and pretty paint. However, to me it is all about the open road, the friendships made, and lust for life. As others have already said, follow your heart and soul my friend.

Hope to see you in Kerrville!

Hopefully you kept the stock "take-offs" to be able to reattach before you trade.

IF you are set on the 19, why not wait 2 more months for a 20?

Additionally, while it is a bit of a pain, maybe you can get more for your current trike by selling it privately to ease some of the sticker shock/depreciation?

    Good luck on your decision...

Looking through my bug splattered LRS windshield if the $ cost is not a problem follow your heart. But remember New is not always better from the picture you posted of your now ride hours as well as cash was lavished on your beautiful ride now. The next logical step is do it again on a new trike or... take the one you have to the next level for half the dollars .... see where I'm going with this. New stock or full blown custom. me I'm thinking Custom from my bunch of bugs LOL. My opinion but everyone has one follow your heart. Keep us posted ride safe Fred

Thanks for all the input. I not going to scratch this itch. As most said, I have my bike the way I want it and really don't want to start over!

    Thanks again

You certainly have one of the nicest, if not the nicest 2016 I have ever seen. You may be making a good decision.

Take 9 grand of the 35 you will loose on the trade and have a bullet proof tractor motor built with all the temperature management goodies you can fit on it as well......
