Its funny, both Hannigan and I have both had tons of excitement and praise for the new design via PM, emails and phone calls, with folks practically fighting over claim of the first production numbers, but its seems some folks tend to not want to buck the trend on the message boards so they say nothing in praise publicly. Thats a shame as I think Hannigan did an amazing job on this design. I met with Randy, Hannigan's chief body designer about this time last year when work was just beginning on the new design. Everyone involved in this project agreed that the 2012 should be a fresh new look that would compliment the restyled 2012 GL1800 and not just a cookie cutter copy of previous styles. Dave, Ruth Anne and Andrew have never been afraid to be innovators (think Tri-Car, V-Rod, Sidecars & Whale Tails) and have produced some amazing and very unique designs and have always backed them up with world class quality.
I agree that Hannigan has nailed the styling with the new 2012 GL1800s to a T and obviously some like the new 2012 Goldwings and some dont. But either way the fact is the new '12 Goldwings are flying out of the showrooms as fast as Honda can build them, so you might as well get used to the new look because Mother Honda isn't going to un-modernize the new GL-1800. The 2010 and down is a design that, though beautiful, is eleven years old and is dated. Its a classic and will always be in demand, but an update was more than due.
Oh I forgot to ask Zook!!! What does the trunk look like,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,?
Any news on the 1600 bmw trike kitI got my hands on the first photos of the new 2012 Hannigan Trike. I'm told the trunk will be substantially larger and access will be much wider as the entire midsection width trunk lid will swing down for access. This is the pre-production prototype and there may be some very slight changes to include an updated restyle on the running boards with a possible addition of lighting on them. Very nice!
The prototype has not had the trunk opening cut out yet as they wanted to show it in Atlanta this past weekend, but it looks like it will be
almost 1 1/2 times as large as the current trunk. That was one of the major considerations of the new design.
Zook
What is the flare on the Aqua Shield near where highway boards would normally mount ? Is is a built in highway board or a built in air dam? just curious If air dam then where would you put highway board
Seen it up close in Atlanta yesterday...it does have the WOW factor..talked to Andrew Hannigan and he said it had just came from paint to the show...we talked about their websight and he said they were going to be working on it also...the trike really needs to be seen in person...when I walked up on it at first I thought it came from Honda...unlike Motortrike making a spoiler out of the GWs rear tailight Hannigan puts it in the kit itself...the fenders remind you of the GW bags and the lights in them have a great custom look...hats off to ya Hannigan..you can take a well deserved bow...
When I saw the pictures of the 2012 Hannigan trike I was not at all impressed and was leaning toward the Viper. I made a trip last Friday to Murray to look at the 2012 prototype in person. Wow I was impressed. It looks totally different in person and is very sharp. Those at the factory were very helpful and answered all my questions, they were working on the bike but let me look at it in the shop. I am anxious to see it in other colors. If you were not impressed with the pictures, don't judge it until you see it in person.
