Which Conversion Would You NOT Recommend?

Hello,

I have recently be thinking Trike-like. I have a 2012 Road King with about 300 miles on it. I have been reading threads on this site and all seem pretty happy with what they have.

I would be most interested in hearing about bad experiences or things to avoid.

I live in Everett Washington and the only close in Trike shop is a Lehman dealer- which sounds OK to me. Other opinions?

I would say that you are right on that most of us are very happy with the conversion kit we chose! All the major manufacturers make great kits, all with some variations. Lehman's kit certainly has a wonderful reputation. Probably the main concern is getting an installer you trust and who has a great reputation for quality work. If you have found a good installer, I think you will be happy with whatever brand of kit you choose also .

As Nana said, all of the manufacturers have very good reputations.

I have a Motor Trike kit, and although I haven't had any issues at all with it, if I were to do it over again I'd take a good look at Road-Smith mainly for the longer wheel base. And, I'd also see how the new IRS suspensions feel. Just my opinion.

If you are not capable of doing your own maintenance, or plan to learn how to work on the conversion....find out where the nearest dealer for "whatever" the kit is. Talk to them, get some names of others that have had conversions performed there, find out what the dealer network looks like across the country where you may travel. Most all the manufacturers offer kits that mimic each other in design, construction and features. You do not want one that you have to take 200-miles to the dealer, or have broken down in the middle of nowhere and there is no dealer within towing distance.

Some manufacturers will use anybody as a so-called dealer (just being honest and factual here) but they may only do a few conversions a year and some may even do conversions from there home garages. Some will go in-and-out of business....this stuff happens.

Some of the big name manufactures of bikes such as Harley and the metric line, are also partnered with many of the kit manufacturers.

If you are not going to kit it yourself, my advice would be to have it kitted by someone you trust, has a good reputation and will be there when you need them. The name-brand of the kit won't matter all that much.

You have had every opportunity to read all the post from the folks here on the forum. I am sure you have gathered enough information. both pro and con, to make an informed decision. In the end....it will be the right one because it's what you decided to do.

Nothing wrong with conversions as I at first was going to do a DFT conversion when HD came out with the Tri Glide. I couldn't pass it up and now after a little tweaking on it I now LOVE it.
