i just love how these trike mfg dont keep traceability records
I have a 2007 Honda VTX 1300R MotorTrike. It has straight pipes, with no baffles. Way too loud! According to MotorTrike, it "probably" has Samson pipes, but they didn't keep such good records in 2007 (!). (If the Motor Trike rep who reads this blog has any input on this it would be especially appreciated.) Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with Decible Killer baffles or Hard Kore baffles. Any suggestions to quiet this baby down? What about buying original mufflers on eBay and putting those on? Also looking to do this in a cost effective way, which I think means baffles over mufflers; but I want to make sure I don't compromise the ride. Thanks.

I love loud bikes! Restricted exhaust kills power.

Check out VTX Owners Association It's a vtx forum that has original factory pipes usually for sale or even free for paying the shipping. I got a new set for $50 including shipping for my 1300 because you are right, it's too damn loud! My dog won't even ride on this bike because of the noise, and she's never wrong.
Judy, I do not think the factory installed the straight pipes. Straight pipes have only one purpose and that is full-on throttle. Less than that there is not enought back pressure for a good fuel mix. The carb had to be really richened up to get it to run at all correct. I suspect a previous owner did that. They liked the noise.
Mufflers are your answer to quite it down. Then it will have to be re-jetted. When your done it will be quiter run better and get better MPG. On a trike any muffler that will fit the pipe and the trike body should work. Jimmy should be able to help you. Contact me and see if we can meet up somewhere here in Key Largo and I will show you what I'm talking about.

samsonusa.com they make baffles for all their pipes. Gorilla is right about back pressure and jetting differences
