clutch cable shorting

I have a VW trike and the guy that owned it before me did the cable, he chopped the cable and spliced it back with the back piece held in with two cable clamps and it will slip and let the clutch come out of adjustment I have heard about clutch cable shorting kits is there such a thing or would I be better off to try to find a swage to fix my problem. By the way does anyone know where to find swages?

Iv seen several methods to shorten the cable..and Iv personaly used many..

Two of my favorite ways is useing a long headless bolt the correct thickness for at least 3 QUILITY clamps...Or cutting the cabe and useing at least 3 quility clamps... I go over the clamp nuts several time makeing them a little tighter each time..

Two clamps and cheap clamps dont work well..

Iv tried the hollow hole and side screw style cable ends popular with the early buggy guys.. I didnt like them at all and they tended to slip out of the hole.

Useing some shrink tubeing can make the connections look a little better and cleaner..Kinda like you are willing to go the "extra" effort to make things nicer... even if no one will see it except you.. the next tech (maybe you) and the next owner.

I've used a couple of methods that have been failureproof. First, use two regular cable clamps, but make sure each wire end is folded back over itself so that each clamp is securing four thicknesses of the cable. Add the second clamp identically a couple of inches away for double security.

The second, and my preferred mehtod is to use a cable loop-end clamp which will in essence make a new loop for the pedal end of the assembly.

The best solution without doubt is to convert to a hydraulic clutch by adding a master and slave servo system to replace the cable altogether.

Used 4 cable clamps in a row touching each other, it's not to pretty but it holds well thanks for the advice

u can go to home depot/lowes and get a small turnbuckle and about 4 clamps
to fit your cable size. make a loop in each end of the cable using the clamps.
put the small turnbuckle in a easy to get to place where u can adjust the
cable length using the turnbuckle. has been used in LOTS of applications to
do exactly what u are trying to do.
