belly pan?

I have read several posts about the need for a belly pan to protect the coolant tank, so I looked under my 08 GW/MotorTrike with Aquashields and it seems to be recessed up far enough for that not to be a concern. I had the trike on a ramp that lifted it just enough for me to peer down the trike from the front, so maybe I didn't get a good enough look at it. Am I missing something here?

The belly pan on a GL1800 not only provides some small aerodynamic benefit, but it does much to protect the exposed bits like the coolant tank, filter and even the bottom of the engine. Stuff doesn't have to be hanging down below the frame to be in danger of thrown up rocks, nuts/bolts, hunks of wood and other road debris. After less than a thousand miles I was amazed at the dents, not scratches from being scraped, but dents in the pan from things being thrown up from the road. Cheap insurance and protection for the money.

Just had belly pan installed 2 wks. on my 05 Wing /08 MT conversion with 13k miles. Mechanic told me he saw multiple signs of nicks and dings on oil filter and coolant bottle as well as other engine areas. For what little a belly pan cost it is a no brainer for me. what's it worth to not be stranded on the side of the road in a strange state on a Sunday evening with a punctured coolant bottle or oil filter?

No belly pan on my Motor Trike, and I've only had to replace the coolant bottle one time!!

Same answer as the other BB Terry.... Get a Tulsa two piece and just don't put the front part on. Some day I'm gonna get that part back out and see if it can be modified a bit to still work. I know it would add a little more protection...

...Get a pan! You'll save yourself a tow in the future. Honda should be putting on as standard equipment.

When my bike still had 2 wheels, I put a belly pan on. It saved my Waterloo.

After hitting a curb, the pan stayed in tach. Looked all bent up in places.

I have now triked my bike, with aqua shields, like the look of them.

And the belly pan will stay there for the duration..

I read on another board that a guy took a pair of snips to the front piece and made it work for the MT aqua shields. My installer left the front pice off, but as soon as I can build something to enable me to get under the trike, I intend on trying to make the front piece fit to prevent stuff front hitting in that area.
