Looking for our first Trike

My wife and I want to get our first Trike. We have rode bikes back in the day, years later we would like to get a HD Road King Trike for cruising. Not sure if we should look into used or try to go brand new, or it there is a more affordable way to begin. Your thoughts?

Welcome to TrikeTalk, David! I assume by Road King Trike you are meaning a Road King that has been converted to a trike rather than the TriGlide that is built from the ground up as a trike by Harley?

Either one has it's advantages. I'd recommend you find an HD dealer who will let you test drive a TriGlide at LEAST around their parking lot. If you specifically want Road King, you will have to watch Ebay and Craigs List for a used trike or buy a new or used 2-wheeler and convert it.

And while you wait for the replies you are about to get here on the forum, read through the discussions in the Harley section of TrikeTalk. You'll hear a variety of pros and cons, grumbles and praises, you will also see that you are going to soon be one of a wonderful group of wonderful people who are passionate about their Harley trikes!!! welcome aboard, As most here I have road for over 40 years on 2 wheels. Went to a trike in 2009 and have not looked back. In the 3 years I have been triking I have traveled 30k miles +. Several long trips. Just a nice way to stay in the wind. As far a what kind of trike that is a very personel decision. All the major kits a good. The base bike being a good machine is the start then if you are having the conversion done by someone else you need to find a good installer. That person will give you a lot of guidance. Lots of options don't be afraid to ask questions we will try and give you honest straight answers. Good luck

First welcome to the board,, there are advanatage either way, buying new or used.. If I was going for a Harley I would go new that way u have a warranty,,,, like Nana suggested find a good dealer and go from there... if u were looking at Goldwings used is just as good since Honda voids the warranty as soon as it is triked.... there is a lot of good info on the board about the TriGlides so make sure u ask questions and read as much as u can on the posts..

I got a 2008 Street glide with Motor trike TRog kit with reverse and Electronic shifter.I got it used with 6000 miles on it from Harley shop. The triglides were going for 40000 with taxes and everything..I paid around 26000 [I] think the harley shops just want to get ride of the ones that were pre Harley doing them. I seen some good deals on Craigslist for ones with the conversion kits also.

Check around there are some nice used ones available on E-Bay and Craiglist. Don't rule out a conversion because they are every bit as good, just no warrantee.

If warrantee and dealer service are high on your needs then the new factory trike should be able to be purchased at MSRP if you shop around.

My dealer in Ohio has a really nice Pearl White, '08 Ultra Classic with a Champion kit in the showroom. Low miles and I believe it's all stock except for the trike kit. $27,000.00 and pristine condition. Looks just like my sigpic except it's white with no running boards. It does have the light bar rear bumper.
