thinking of fitting hi ratio rockers 1.4.1 to a vw 1600 twin port
any thing good or bad about this move

so we have no vw rev heads in here
going away from the 1.4.1 rockers now thinking more 1.25 beleave its safer on the motor

If you are using a stock VW camshaft, then I've heard of no failures in either of those two popular ratios (1:25 and 1:40). There will undoubtedly be some performance gain since you will be oening the intake valve more, and the ratio rockers used to be one of most accepted methods of low-cost performance mods to our little underpowered VWs.

I agree with your analogy that the 1:25 should be easier on the motor, and I doubt the difference between the two ratios would be easy to measure. If you're installing the ratio rockers in an older engine, a new set of springs might be a good investment. You'll be pushing your springs 25% or 40% more than before and failure of an aged spring might be catastrophic.

Next, the additional breathing from the ratio rockers will open up the possibilities for some more carbureation. Which then tends to lead to better exhaust flow, which then leads us back to bigger valves, then more carbureation, then bigger displacement, then . . . .
