    Default Review:Wings and Baffle

As you know the TG has a much deeper rake than other models, this causes more buffeting. These are two products I am using to correct this situation.I don't like buffeting, makes my eyeballs shake and tires me out on a long ride.At speed the radio gets fuzzy and hearing which we need riding becomes greatly reduced.

The first product is the front fork baffle, designed and sold by Dennis Swan at tglidestuff.com.Dennis originally added a spacer to the existing HD baffle. It helped but not as much as his new wider 2" model. This model really reduces buffeting wind noise etc.It is a simple two bolt on accessory that will lower buffeting, make your radio clearer at speed and cut down on on tiredness on a long ride.

Now for the WINGS.If they didn't work at all I would probably by them just for looks.I have the powdercoat model and they look great on the trike. What the wings do is force the air down and out of the cockpit.I live in the Rio Grande Valley in winter and do a lot of warm or hot weather riding. There is a lot of windy hot days and wings limit the turbulence a great deal.On a cold night I can get warm air on my feet and legs by adjusting the vents in the lowers to let it in.My wife likes this feature also.

I have found my radio is clearer, hearing is improved and am not as tired on a long ride.I have not ridden in the rain as yet but I can only say these items should make that more palatable.

As with the other products tglidestuff.com designs and manufactures these items are certainly worth a closer look.

TK, mine are powder coated as well. I feel the same way you do. These just seem to fit in like they've always been there. Here's a front on picture so everyone can see what we mean.

Here's shot of the left deflector and baffle taken with the wheel turned to the right and the camera held level with the baffle. As you can see both deflector and baffle are very well designed and constructed. Again, like TK, I love how the powder coat goes with the blue/black. It's all good.

I'm interested in these. Does the baffles and deflector affect the air the motor gets?? Do you notice any difference in engine temps??

I have tested them for about 8 months and up to 100 miles per hour. I have a digital temp gauge and have found no noticeable change in the temperature of the engine. I believe that the engine will get more air helping lower the temp but I can not prove that. I have tried a IR gun on the head and my dakota digital temp gauge and I can't prove there is any difference. The only thing I can say is that the rider is much more comfortable for winter riding. It stops 99% of the air coming up in front of the tank and diverts it down on the engine, the fork wings cuts down on the air on the knees. Together they cut cold air on the rider down and make it much more comfortable for winter riding. I might mention they will work great on a motorcycle as well although Dennis says he does not want to venture there yet. They also help with buffeting the rider gets if this is a concern. They actually look nice also as with anything Dennis puts out. A great addition for anyone who rides in the winter. They are easy to install, about 30 minutes or less. There are 2 screws in the under fork baffle and 2 screws on each of the fork wings. All easy to reach. So easy a caveman could do it, or just use your easy button. Great product and good price, and effective. Thanks, Jerry

I just received and installed his tour pack rails. The quality and appearance of his work is very good and I received them in less than a week. I am considering these parts for my next purchase.

It's fun to buy stuff that works exactly as advertised. All of Dennis' stuff works really really good.

I'll provide a review. I installed both the wings and baffle. There was no wind coming over the fuel tank; none! I did notice a significant reduction in the cold air reaching me. The temp was 43 degrees and a comfortable ride with jeans, long sleeve shirt and a mesh jacket with liner. I was very comfortable. Folks, you can bet these accessories are well worth the cost.

I put the fork baffle on a couple weeks ago. Works great and is easy to install. After reading the current posts and noting no heat issues I am thinking of getting a set of the fork wings. Are these easy to install as well? Thanks for your help.

Is the fork baffle made of plastic? If so, I'm concerned about longevity. What will it look like after a few years of road use? Is the baffle available separately from the fork wings? I'm not a fan of the walrus look.

Baffle is made of tinted Lexan, bolted to a powder coated metal bracket.
It will show wear, just like lexan adjustable vents on clam shell faring and windshield.
I feel the fork wings and lower baffle work togeather, results of lower baffle alone will be different.
If you want just lower baffle, give me a call or e mail

Update on the fork wings and lower tree baffles I have introduced and to answer a few questions I have received:

Of the initial run of 30 sets, I only have one set left in chrome and five in the silver vain powder coat. Another run of fork wings are at the chrome shop now, 25 sets, with a completion date by end of this month.

The goal on these were to remove the wind buffeting I felt was more noticeable on my Tri-Glide as compared to my 05 Ultra. These have been designed for fitment to Tri-Glides, both to follow the angle of forks as well as clearance for the lower fairings. Results have been favorable, especially in cool weather riding. As this fork wing design allows for full function of adjustable vents on clamshell faring, this will also allow a nice, less turbulent air flow to rider when wanted in warmer temperatures.

To date, I have personally received only positive reviews on these. They were designed to run together and year round. With the help of several on this forum, I feel they have passed allot of testing in both cool and warm/hot temperatures and have had no ill-effects on running temperatures of the Tri-Glide.

As with any product I design for our Tri-Glides, it is only worth the purchase if it lives up to its billing. With the outside testing results from other owner/riders, I feel you will also be happy with the results. If not, as always, let me know and your purchase can be returned, money refunded, all concerned satisfied.

If you feel you do not have a wind buffeting problem, if we ever meet up somewhere on road, just ask, you are welcome to ride my T G to feel the difference. I already ride it like I stole it so I am sure you could do it no harm.

They stay about 3/8 to 1/2 inch clear of the lower, which is why Dennis' deflectors are so good. If you did try to run modified stock deflectors, you have to turn them around and then they don't deflect at the top efficiently. Dennis designed his to deflect correctly AND fit with lowers installed. And as an added bonus, his fit and follow the lines of the TG front end like they belong there.
