Default Why, just plain Why?

I'm so sorry for taking up space on your wonderful trike forum. Everyone has been so great answering my questions. Today, I went to the dealer to talk to them about the TG. I've worked really hard on making out a really nice excel spread sheet for the pricing on the TG. I had the TG listed for them to put a price with all the freight, doc fees and the security package. Then I listed all the accessories the dealer would have to install, a space for the cost of the labor and the accessories I would purchase and install myself. Of course there was a spot for the trade in, subtotal without the taxes and then the final OTD price. The GM loved my excel sheet, even though I stole it from a friend. On the floor were two, a black and a red ready to be test rode. The Big Red one had gas in it, so out the door we went. They pulled it outside, said said go anywhere you want too, take your time with it. Ok, I have never attemped to "drive one". And I proved today that "I CAN"T"!! So, I'm at home nursing a pulled calf muscle, pain in my back and my feelings hurt. Yes, I couldn't turn the darn thing and almost drove it off the curb into a busy 4 lane highway. Yes, I put my feet down trying to stop the darn thing. Ok, ya'll can stop laughing now.

I thought I was turning it ,my brain said I was turning it, but I wasn't turning it. I know that ya'll understand what I'm saying. So, what the heck is wrong with me. My riding instincts of over 20 years told me I was going to fall over. My old brain couldn't comprehend that there is a brake pedal, a hand brake and a clutch just like my 2 wheeler. Plus I was looking down trying to figure out why this beautiful machine was first not turning and then NOT stopping.

WE decided to come back on a Sunday when the industrial center across the street is empty so I'll have a long straight road and big parking lots to learn how to turn the front end. PHEW, I need a beer now, take some Aleve and prop my feet up, that was frustrating. But I will win!! By the way, just that little bit told me that I'm going to love that 103".

Sounds like you had an exciting ride even if you didn't get on the busy 4 lane. Don't give up, you will love it even more when you get use to it. A few figure 8's and you will have it all in memory. I even tried a unicycle once for a couple minutes, that didn't work out so good either.

Congrats on your maiden ride and that you were not hurt any more than you are. Good idea to hit the parking lot first next time. Go very slow and do some turns. Learn that the brakes are in the same place. Take your time. It really does take 400 to 500 miles to just get comfortable. Good luck

You'll get it, Skeet! Really you will. So don't give up! The parking lot is the best idea.

Other than steering (as in deliberately turn the front wheel toward the left to turn left, and toward the right to turn right) instead of leaning the bike and countersteering, everything is still just a motorcycle. Same clutch, brake, shift, turn signals, horn......... etc. Well, it DOES have a bigger rear end....... .

LOL, after 3 aleve and two beers, I'm good now. That was awful, but i'm not giving up. If I can ride 2 wheels all over the US, I can ride 3...right...I'm so embarrased.. at least the dealer sales people since they all know me, didn't laugh at me.. to my face... weather will be bad here on Sunday, so will have to wait until next week. I'm excited now, I'm gonna tame that beast...I AM WOMAN HEAR ME ROAR!!! well until a week from tomorrow at least

The steering thing I can understand. You probably tried to lean and when nothing happened you panicked. That is what bothers me. Forgetting where the breaks are and trying to stop by dragging you feet is a major NO NO. You should have been warned that it steers DIFFERENTLY than a 2 wheeler. Next time have the sales guy tell you about push / pull steering, and remember leaning does absolutely nothing. Putting your foot down only breaks ankles.
At least I didn't break an ankle, but now after 3 aleve, 2 beers and some Grand Marnier, I'm really good....LOL, they didn't even show me anything, just take it....I watched the HD video on UTube and it explained alot, especially the not leaning. I knew that, but my brain just shut down. I've been a police officer for 27 years, I've had to make quick decisions all the time, but this! I'm not skeered, I'll get it. When we are able to take it to the road across from the dealer, it will help alot, no one will see me then...lol
As a Policeman, maybe you were sick the day you were supposed to be riding the three wheeled meter maid scoot and writing parking tickets! BWAHAHAHA, never fear, the learning curve on a trike is pretty steep. These are the only way to fly!

When Vesta (wife) bought her first trike she had sat on one for about 3 minutes. When we went to pick it up she made 2 laps of the parking lot, then the 42 mile ride through San Francisquito Canyon (lots of twisties) home. She had been riding 3 wheeled off road vehicles and quads for years. That was with numb hand and feet, side effect of Chemo.

My wife had some surgery's that prevented her from riding her Road King so we started looking for a trike for her. We found one in Casper, Wyoming 400 miles from home. Neither of us had ever been on a trike before. We took it for a 2 mile test ride and then she jumped on it and rode it the 400 miles home. Never had a problem. It doesn't take long to get the hang of it.

The first trike I tried to drive scared me so bad I turned right around (gone 1/4 mile) and took it back to the dealer. It was a Gold Wing 1800 with a MotorTrike with independent suspension. I could hardly hold on to the handlebars the head shook so bad. It might not have been in good shape. I don't know I just said never again, 2 wheels would do me fine as they have all these years!

Then, after reading all the tips and advice on this forum we found a Gold Wing 1800 with a Lehman Monarch II kit (solid suspension - no rake installed) and I drove it 130 miles home with advice from the seller to not take the curves faster than the sign says. Loved it! Then I drove it another 125 miles to have a rake kit put on and let Hubby drive it back...he said it was awesome with the rake kit. We bought the rake kit from Bazooka on this website. I haven't driven it since the rake kit was put on - waiting on weather. I still work and the good weather is happening during the work-week with the bad weather moving in on the weekends - when I'm free to ride.

Just remember...

if you want to turn left pull that left handlebar toward your stomach while pushing with the right hand - and vice-versa.

It works the same if in a gentle curve or a hard turn - pull and push....don't lean! Just like plow-reining a horse or mule - gee and haw!

So - DON'T give up! Try it again nice and easy and ride a couple of different trike kits before you decide to buy.

Skeet, I know exactly how you feel! I just relived my first ride on mine. Only, when my brain did flipflops, I went straight for the ditch. At least I didn't put my feet down! I couldn't find the brakes either and just screamed!
