Honda Warranty issues after converting to a trike?

I'm getting closer to pulling the trigger and get my 2010 Goldwing converted to a Motortrike Adventure IRS. My only concerns are what happens if I encounter problems with the bike that should be covered by the Honda warranty, the bike only has 950 miles on it. <br />

I've heard some horror stories, but would like some input and advice from those of you have gotten the conversion. I plan to take the bike to a Honda dealer for the conversion, but he won't be around on long rides.

I think the drive train warranty is gone, at least that is what Honda says. I have had non-drive train, warranty work done with out issue.

</div>I had my 2010 done in Nov. and heard if a factory rep needs to be called in for a major drive train, transmission failure you are out of luck. That was a decision I had to make. I took a chance as that is the only way to have a GL1800 trike. I converted to Champion so also lost my ABS which really hurt.<br />
Got to say I haven't regreted triking it though.

Up to the dealer , if he wants to fix it and not tell Mother Honda. Had a friend have his dealer do it for him. Check with the dealer is doing the job . Tell him you want him to service my bike after it becomes a trike . Next question are you going to honor the warrantee . If not you can get it done at a trike installer. Just cause he sells trikes does not make him a trike installer

The Honda dealer I'm going through has said he would warranty my bike if needed under the Honda warranty. He installs Champion and CSC there at the dealership and sends the bike out to a very reputable Motortrike installer, Nutting Custom Trikes, just 10 miles from my house. I have several friends riding Motortrikes done by Nutting so I'm comfortable using him..<br />

I knew the powertrain warranty would be gone after converting to a trike, but I think odds are on my side I won't have any powertrain problems, it's the dinky crap that can go wrong under warranty that I hope will be taken care of. My biggest concern is being 500 miles from home and something goes wrong and taking it to a Honda dealer who is trike hostile.

I have a Roadsmith kit on my Goldwing and have had several minor warranty issues. Haven't received any flak from any of the 2 dealers I've dealt with. Like I said, the issues have been minor ones and not pertaining to the drive train. Hope I don't ever have to cross that bridge

Bought a 2009 CSC trike new from honda dealer that did the conversion, had nothing but problems from it from day one. Kept taking it back numerous times. Had bad motor nosies, and shifting problems. Also had a loud popping noise every time I stopped, and took off from a stop. Finally after 14 times taking it to the dealer and hearing him tell me that "if mother Honda finds out it has been triked it will void your warranty" I had them buy it back from me, and I ran far away from Honda...Miss my 2 wheel Goldwing, but thats life I guess.....

</div>Sounds to me like the problem was more with the installer than Honda...<br />
The 2009 might have been having problems before the kit was installed or the kit was not properly installed???? There are thousands of very happy CSC owners out there. Honda is not the only one not to Stand behind a motorcycle that are triked. You were lucky to get out of that deal...

</div>This pretty much sums it up.. if the dealer is "trike Friendly" they will fix any and everything under warranty.. If they want to be a pain in the rear... Find another dealer.

I think it really helps if you take your trike to the dealer whom you bought it from in many cases they will be there for you! <img src="images/smilies/thumbup.gif" border="0" alt="" title="" class="inlineimg" />

A friend of mine bought a Hannigan kit on a New Goldwing. After some miles he starting having shifting problems and engine making noises. It needed a new transmission and an engine overhaul (repair) They called Honda factory and they said no, the warranty was void because of the conversion. He had bought it from another dealer. It ended up costing him $5,500 to get the trike back. This was one of the main reasons I bought a New Harley Triglide, the warranty.

The Honda dealer here was selling new Gold Wings a couple of years ago that were converted to Lehman Trikes. I guess I should have asked them if they had any warranty with them.
When I bought my bike I also bought an extended warranty (not Honda, I found out). While having it triked they found the secondary master cylinder was bad. They fixed it under warranty. I also had a maintenance agreement with the original dealer. He said they would honor that but any extra on the trike part would cost more. I was agreeable to that. I took it in for the last maintenance and they did that but would not do the recall check on the secondary master cylinder. The CB switch was not working and they said they would have to order a whole new set of switches. Radio, intercom. cb, etc as they were all one part. The cost of the part alone was $2154. They checked with the warranty company and they said to fix it. They also refused to install the rear MC tire I had on the front, so that went to another place.
To do the SMC recall test I took it back to the triking dealer. It Passed.

Their service manager said they don't tell Honda it is a trike when a customer brings the trike in for warranty work. Joplin Powersports also told me the same thing, and they don't do trike conversions, so there are a few trike friendly dealers around.

To me it's worth the risk, I want a trike so I'm going to take the chance, just need to convince the missus to let me spend another 14 Grand on the bike.

i also purchased from Searcy-----as of now (20,000 Miles) i have not had an issue to deal with any problems. They do seem to be pretty good folks to deal with
