Smile itsy bitsy spyder!

Anyone that played "slug bug" as a kid, raise your hands! Drove from Sebring to Fort Lauderdale and back today, and if I was playing "slug spyder", someone would have been black and blue! I counted nine (9) Can Am Spyders! More spyders than my beloved Harleys! What's up with that?

I prefer the game of Punch A Cracker when a Cracker Barrel is spotted. It's my wifes favorite restaurant. But not mine. Did I mention she hates this game since I spot most of them? And she's the cracker! Good thing I wear a helmet, huh?

It all depends on the area. I hardly ever see a Spyder where I live.

Same in my neck of the woods. Never see them. But that was a pretty funny comment about them traveling in a pack for moral support, lol

Same here! It was freaky. And they were not together. Some single, others in groups with other trikes and 2 wheelers, and both north and southbound. I won't be ditching Ghost Wheels for a spyder any time soon...

I see them here in California.. but never in packs... I think the Sport bike guys put them on a hit list..so they hide!

Your theory may be valid BeHereNow.
In our local riders club a few years ago Madame & I were the only sidecar riders, now there are at least 6 sidecar outfits. ( We're trend setters, you know)
There were always a few V W based trikes, now there are many more.
We ride the only motorcycle based trike locally, we'll see how long that lasts.
But the Can-Am Spiders ! In the past year they have gone from none to about 10 locally. Never tried one myself but they must tick the boxes for some.
Variety is the spice of life.

My Triumph dealer sells the Spyders.
A lot of these middle age guys think they want to ride 2 wheels.
They try it, get the crap scared out of them, and change their mind.
The Spyder takes almost no skill. Trikes are easy, Spyders are easier.

From what I see, two wheelers go to a trike, when the time comes.
These Spyders attract the guys with no experience, regardless of age or health.
It will be a conventional trike for me, when the time comes.
I do like my two wheeler, but nothing lasts forever.

Well we all have opinions. I have owned 3 trikes and 2 spyders and currently have a 2012 RT which I really like much more than any of the 3 trikes. But we all can have our thoughts ... Numbers wise a couple of months ago we had over 70 Spyders meet for lunch in Sebring FL.

As far as easy to ride I think you could take a guy off a 2 wheeler to a trike and a Can Am and they would initially find the trike much easier to ride. The spyder takes a while to get used too. The steering is so responsive you will be over steering and over correcting on the spyder for a while. Once you are used to both I think the comparison would be pretty even if you are comparing Gold Wing trikes to the Can Am RT

None here. The only one I've seen on the road was an RT down on the BlueRidge Parkway last spring.

Can you give some input, Gold Wing trike vs. Can Am RT? Ride differences, handling, braking, Maintenance. Thanks, Tom.

We have a few Spyders here. A few states are allowing you to take the test on them for the,Motorcycle endorsement. They have it on their TV add, but found it is not true here in Conn. Lake George last year was full of them, 20 to 1 over the Stallion . I have only seen 2 registered Stallions since they came out .As stated a lot of the Spyders I see have for sale signs on them. Too low to the ground for,me Kind of scary on the highway with the big trucks . Riding position is hunched over ( snowmobile style) the touring Model not so bad.

I find the RT to be a smoother ride. Power wise the GW is faster. Handling totally different. I only can compare a CSC trike to the RT. A lot more work to ride the trike through the twisties. The RT very easy so much so that you had better practice some because you will over steer and under steer very easily. The RT can not allow the wheels up front to come off the ground at high speeds, the computers will shut down your speed and kick in. I could easily pick up a back wheel on the CSC if I tried hard.

Space for the passenger is the same on both not much difference, about the same amount of space and wind.

Riding position with the RT and GW is very similar. I liked my GW seat better but it was custom made. There is a lean on the RS model just like that of a sport bike. The RT is pretty much up right with no lean.

I have not had any problems with the RT yet. The GW was great once they fixed the over heating issue in the 2002 model which they denied for almost 2 years. But you can always find a good GW mechanic in almost every big town, not so for the RT

Gas mileage was better on the GW and it has a bigger tank with options to have a larger capacity.

If you have any other questions let me know ... Especially if I did not cover something in particular.

Thanks. I have registered on "Spyder Lovers. com".. I can't believe all the horror stories on bad running Spyders. And 2 recently had theirs burn up. I thought that problem was fixed. So many problems are being reported! I am(was) considering an RT Limited. Don't know now. I still want to test ride one. Ride safe. Tom

First I ever heard that but we have our bikes trikes a and trailers insured through a different company than our auto and home.

BRP, Is very adamant that the spyder is not a trike or a motorcycle,
They call it a Roadster. And the not calling it a Motorcycle ticks off most spyder owners because they think by riding a spyder they're riding a motorcycle and get insulted if some one on a two wheeler doesn't wave to them
