    Default Roadsmith Performance Sway Bar

Has anyone had any experience with the Roadsmith Performance Sway Bar...It's an option along with heavy duty shocks.

Wondered how well these take the roll out on the twisties.

Call Roadsmith and talk to them,
I was told to get the HD swaybar but let the shocks alone because of being to stiff (I ride 99% of the time 1 up).

I did get the performance sway bar installed...It does help. But, still gotta take it easy on the twisties. So, just ordered the performance shocks. Hope to minimize dips to the outside on curves -- can be unnerving when taking 'em speed!

Three of us ride Roadsmith's in our group and the two-wheeled Wings (and others) don't run away from us. I have the performance sway bar with the Accu Ride system and trike only leans so far then stiffens up and holds the curves really well.

Good advice Memnoch451...I assure it's not about speed. I've ridden over 75K on my Motortrike kit ('89 GL1500 under the covers). So, I got the hang of it on twisties. But, going to a new bike and kit with IRS rig and EZ steer has changed the feel quite a bit. Doesn't feel quite as stable on those same twisties anymore -- so, I'm looking to stiffen things up a bit and gain back the confidence that I had for so many miles before. I hope the performance shocks do the trick.

Good to hear mhgoldwing...That's the feeling that I want to get to. Sway bar helped, now, want to heavy duty shocks and hope it stiffens things out a bit on the twisties...I'll keep you all posted!

Performace Sway bar and performance shocks did the trick. Hooray!!!<br />
Got the shocks set one shy of stiffest setting - that seems to be my sweet spot with tthe 5.5 EZ Steer...Now, on the twisties, she bends but don't break.

The $49 performance sway bar upgrade on the Roadsmith trike is a definate YES. Its money well spent and will noticeably lessen lean in the twisties, while not adding any harshness to the ride.

    Default Sway bar

When I had my 1800 triked the sway bar and aux fuel tank were at top of my list for must have. Haven't had it back very long but have noticed that I take curves and corners more aggressive than I did on 2 wheels and feels like the trike is on rails. My wife is way more comfortable on it but my riding tends to slow down a bit when she's on board, but she is getting more used to a quicker pace.
One question i have on installs. When riders have their bike in for triking and time frames are a week or more is it because their dealer has many to do? Mine took 2 1/2 days and out the door. Took it in day before the install. Just wondering.

    A big +1 on that.
Add an Avon Cobra Trike tire to the front in combination with the high performance sway bar and it's a very hard combination to beat in the twisties. Hee, hee...don't ask me how I know....LOL
Mine was in the shop for over a month and the workmanship was pretty lousy. I had to go back over every single nut, bolt, etc. I don't think it's so much the time frame as it is the experience, skill and a conscientious installer doing the job.

I'm looking at the MPA next to replace my Cobra. For the additional cost on the Cobra, I can't see the advantage.

Bikerbillone - if you don't mind me asking, what was your experience with the Avon tire? How may miles? Any premature cupping/wear issues? Any info from real-life use of the tire will help Roadsmith in its product recommendations.

    bikerbillone,
Just curious: Is your Avon just the front Avon Cobra or the new Cobra TRIKE tire? As you're probably aware, they are very similar in appearance but are two totally different tires. The trike tire has the word TRIKE cast into the sidewall. I just ran the Cobra TRIKE over 300 miles of some severe Arkansas twisties at a pretty aggressive riding style, mostly chip & seal surface, and it sticks like glue and has shown very little wear so far at 5000 miles.

Jim, my apologies for not getting back to you sooner, would I recommend the Cobra Trike tire, absolutely, I'm running the 'real' Cobra Trike tire up front front, not a Avon rear tire of the same size. I have a long way to go for a real test as I only have a little over 4K miles on the tire, I see no wear, no cupping, nothing unusual, it runs strait and true, but I run Ride-On Tire Sealant which gives running balance. Before the Cobra, I ran the Stone BT45 (rear) and the thing was over 24K miles when I made the switch, a really good tire.

Here's my little hang up with the Cobra Trike Tire, it loses about 3 lbs psi every 4 or 5 days, I can find no puncture, nail, nothing using conventional methods with the tire mounted. I have to pull the thing off and put in a tub of water, I just haven't done that. I'm guessing for sure it's not the fault of the tire, it's some other problem. My other thing, is the Cobra Trike Tire cost vs the Stone or the MPA (rear), but that's in the eyes of the beholder.

My opinion, I think Road Smith could easily recommend the Cobra Trike Tire and feel comfortable with that recommendation. I've read a lot of posts on this tire, all good. I can't find anything on the number of miles one can reasonably expect from the the tire, guess it's rather new on the market and riders have not reached that magic 'change the tire' number.

Hey Bill.... One of the guys that rides mostly twisties said he got just over 11,000 I believe; but we have to take into consideration riding style and roads. Folks that are more mellow and do mostly slower speeds and straighter roads will get well over 20,000 I'm sure. To me the vast improvement in handling and comfort over the BT45 and MPA make the price difference worth every penny.

Good post Jerry and I agree, the jury is out if I will go with the MPA, or the Cobra but I have miles to go before I make that call. I will see how the miles stack up on the Cobra.
