I was thinking of adding one of these small flag poles to each fender rack. What's your opinion?

look pretty good and according to their description should be an easy install---my issue would be my inability to strap my guitar down to the rack

Make sure you start with a small brill bit. (Lets say, 1/8") Camphor the hole making the size of the camphor a slight bit larger then the desired diameter of the hole. That will ensure you won't crack or chip the finish in the fiberglass. Then begin to increase the size of your drill bits until you reach the desired diameter. Do NOT apply pressure when drilling. Just use the weight of the drill and drill 'slowly'. It might take awhile, but you'll have perfect holes with no cracks or chips in the surrounding fiberglass finish.

Masking tape on top of the area where you are going to drill helps also to prevent chipping
