Hi, i'm a new member, and i'm happy to find a site about trikes. I'm thinking about getting a trike sometime this summer/fall. There are so many different manufacturers, its hard to decide what/which features a person would need/like. I'm hoping to hear from other folks about what they love about thier trike, or hate about it. I am a Goldwing fan, have owned several, currently riding a '08 pearl white with nav/comfort/ 2 wheeler. I'd love to hear from other members about their experience with the different manufacturers/builders and what options are necessary, and what are just for looks. thanks, Bernie

Welcome Bernie. Personally, I like my H-D Tri-Glide. But converting what you got works. Nice area up there. been to Sherwood park on business. Rollerblading along the river. the Edmonton mayor also tried to hit my car in the Best Western parking lot.

Hi Burnibee! Welcome to TrikeTalk. If you have a bike you love already, by all means trike it! Be very sure to add the rake kit though...... steering without it is possible, but much less comfortable than with it!

Welcome aboard. First you need to decide are you doing the concersion or are you having it done. If you are having it done then find a good local installer and bring them on board in the decision process. Thats the first step as I see it.

if I was buying a new Trike, would buy the bike first in the US,,bring it back here, and register it,,then ride it back down to a trike dealer and have it triked and ride it home,or bring the kit home and do it yourself, which is what I would do. have met lotta Gold wingers in Alberta who have done that.

Not completely correct info kenvb.

You certainly can buy a two wheeler and a kit in the US, but you can't import a completed trike unless it's completely built by a manufacturer i.e. Harley Davidson.

There's many folks have bought used and new trikes in the USA such as a Gl1800 and a Motor Trike (and others) rear end and they never get past the border unless they're smuggled into Canada and then you'll never get them registered.

Many manufacturers of trike kits will only permit their kits to be installed by approved installers.

There are good installers in Alberta! Put a kit of your choice on your '08 in Alberta or bring a new 1800 back from Phoenix! It won't be as inexpensive as you can put a completed unit together in the US but you'll be riding a trike in Alberta. Of course the other option is to purchase a used or new completed trike in Alberta.

This is not the time to take shortcuts or rely on weak information- there's too much $$$$$ at stake!

I just called the 2 friends that did what i said, one had his Alberta Registered trike in back of his pickup, he said the Border gaurds at Coutts never went out and saw it up close and he came home with it,and had driven it back and forth many times, the other friend said he had his Alberta registered Wing in his trailer with the trike kit still in a box ,not installed, so sorry. was partially wrong, only know of one person that brought a New Alberta Registered GL 1800 triked back to Alberta with no issues.

I don't wish to be argumentative kenvb, but failure to be asked by a border guard about what you're importing does not absolve an importer of failing to declare. There are also Federal importation rules to comply with. See www.riv.ca
I suspect your friends have not declared the changes to their bikes when registering them. In Alberta, even if importing a vehicle from another province you have to have an inspection at a certified inspection site to ensure that the bike/vehicle meets provincial standards. That completed form must be presented when registering the vehicle.

I just registered my old Lehman Trike, told them itis a trike,and has been since 88. they dont care,doesnt say on the registration anywhere that it is a trike?
