Oil that you use in your Goldwing

What kind of oil do you use in your Goldwing?
I am asking because the guy I bought my 2009 GW from was using Shell Rotella T oil.
After reading what is on the label of the Rotella T I do not think that was the best oil to use.
It is time to change the oil and I would like to know what kind to buy.
I am not totally sold on the synthetics.
Thanks for any input you may give me.

FWIW, I've been using synthetics and Shell Rotella T for years in bike/trike and cars with never a problem. I buy it in one gallon containers at Wally World.

A lot of GL1800s are running around with Rotella-T (in the blue jug) in the engine. I have used it a couple times but went back to AMSOIL 10W40 motorcycle oil.

Do I get the extra benefit to recoup the extra cost? I don't know. In my mind I do and when it comes right down to it that is what counts most of the time. A person's oil choice is like many other things.
I do believe the uniform molecule size of the synthetic oil makes it lubricate better then dino-oil. Beyond that choose your poison..

Rotella T6 (blue jug) in my GW Trike. Started using it after the first oil change; it shifts smoother and the transmission is quieter. Was recommended by many on this forum so I went with it. My brother-in-law is an AMS-Oil guy but he cannot honestly tell me if there is difference between the two.

hey gys,,,, thi is a goldwing,,,,,i put ordinary motorcycle oil honda, motul,,yamaha...etc mineral oil,,,,no probleme, and honda oil filter,,,,i said to myself i have the money to by a goldwing then a have the money to by oil and filters, and gaz,
why bothers,,, life is shorth,,,,like they said(drive it like you stole it)
let say, good mecanique dont need special oil ,liquide or traitment,
when i hear a guy said to me,,,,that afetr changing his oil the engine run better,,,, then i said to myself,,,(the brain is a wonderful univers)

its a joke,,,,, hi hi

Hi ti-rouge, I need to disagree with you on what you said above about the reason you use Honda oil etc. I could hear the difference in my transmission and felt the change in shifting when I changed over to synthetic oil. Also, I believe the synthetic brand oil that I purchased costs more than Honda oil so it was not price driven. I do like you quote "drive it like you stole it", however

My 2010 also calls for 10w-30, but my 03 called for 10w-40. Same engine, no changes. But, I feel better with the 10w-40 Amsoil since living in Fla. most of the time the temp is hot. Probable makes no difference though. I used for several years 20w-50 mobile 1 in my 03. Put 103,000 miles on that.

I'vew read the Amsoil brochures and am quite impressed. I would use it if I could buy it locally at Wal-Mart or Autozone but I strongly dislike their distribution policy - the ordering, the waiting, the shipping. That's the only drawback.

I use the Mobil 1 in 15w50. I dislike an oil I can't buy locally. All the wing engines I've ever run it in seem to stay quieter in the S. Tx heat, and the transmission sure shifts easier. Even made the infamous Valkyrie transmission whine a little quieter. :)

I change oil at 5K mile intervals, was using the WalMart filters, but seems they have discontinued them. I'll have to find another brand filter.

I use Honda 10w-40 Semi-Synthetic.....after years of using most "everything" on the market, I have decided this seems to give me better, smoother shifting/clutching...ThumbUp

This I agree with, T6
