Are the dealers that hard UP?

I go today to get my buyers order for the new TG. I asked about led lights for the front turn signals. As always the parts guys looked in the book and said "HD doesn't have anything that will fit"? "Well, what about Kuryakyn"? "Oh, we won't recommend using aftermarkets, that could cause problems in the electrical system!!! I had also asked the parts manager about an aftermarket part and he said "I don't want to use aftermarket parts, HD is all I want to sell and install, it works better". Are you seeing this at other dealers also?

My dealer will sell almost anything to make the almighty buck!!! They would rather sell HD stuff (profit margin) but will sell anything they can get.ThumbUp

Most Harley shop around me would spit in my eye before selling a non harley after market part... Maybe if they can't get a part for a few months and are in need of the lift... Maybe!!!

I liked to fell over the day I bought my TGlide. I ordered about 1k of Harley parts. Then I ask about a trailer hitch. The answer; Harley doesn't have one and I can't believe anyone would put a trailer hitch on a motorcycle. I told the, I guess I will order an after market hitch, which I did later that day. I now order my HD parts from Surdyke Harley located in MO.

well, if V&H exhaust count as aftermarket, and I am sure they do, my dealer sells aftermarket....it's not so much to make the one shot $$ but to keep the customer coming back "that's where they make the $$"
They even went as far as to get V&H to warrant a bad baffle a while back. They also got Harley to pay for an aftermarket clutch cable replacement when my catalytic converter melted my previous clutch cable

My dealer is fairly good about getting whatever part you want. If you have bought a bike (or trike in this case) they give you 10% all parts and motorclothes for one year even if they order from Kuryakyn. I had them install Dennis's lift kit in the trike last fall and now they are even ordering direct from him and installing them on new trikes. A new Blue and Black 2012 TG they had on the floor had the lift kit and the tour pak locator from Dennis and a set of matching Lehman running boards installed. It stayed on the showroom floor for about a week. We also have a punch card with room for 24 punches. If you attend any HOG event during the year or help out at the dealership with a function they have going on you get a punch. Fill the card and you get 10% off the next year. The wife and I each have 22 punches in our card for this year already (cards start Dec. 1 of each year).

Last year we filled two cards each and had about 4 or 5 punches on a third card. Each card goes in a drawing for a new HD leather jacket at the Christmas Party put on by the HOG Chapter and the dealer. I haven't won a jacket yet in 4 or 5 years but have been getting 10% off everything in the store for that long.

2011 Merlot and Black TG.

Our dealers in this area will order Kuryakyn, etc. and install them for us at our request. We've never had a problem with that, I'm thankful to say.

Right On! ThumbUp

I've never run into a dealer who wouldn't order after market parts, most are looking for the almighty dollar and will sell anything a customer wants. Now since I do all my own work I order from a many different vendors and actual HD dealers. One HD dealer I order from also has the Drag Specialties catalog online and sells after market parts at 20% off.

Its just strange with this dealer. I watched a guy ask the parts person, do they have led taillights. Of course they do, it on a rear fender desplay in side a case. But the parts person told the man, no we don't carry any. The man turned around and walked out. I know that they sell alot of V&N but more of Rush. My sales person asked this morning about the led taillights for the trike and all we got were , it could mess up the electrical. I have been riding with Kury Iso grips for 18 years and loved them. I asked about those this morning and was told, "I don't like them, you should stick with the HD brand". Wow, what does it matter what the sales person thinks, if I want the Iso grips, he should jump thru hoops to order me a set. Is this a HD thing, or just the different dealers?

I have had tremendous service from my HD dealer in using and installing any part, no matter the manufacturer. They have gone to bat for me on aftermarket warranty items, and go so far as recommending the better part for the job, no matter the manufacturer.

I would seriously consider another dealer.

BTW, this is the same dealer doing my CSC Daytona conversion. They have earned my business for over 20 years now, and they never stop working to keep the customer happy....ABC Harley-Davidson Waterford, MI ThumbUp

You've got a crap dealer! There are 6 dealers within 50 miles of my house. Never had a problem with any of them. We do most of our business at Lancaster Harley, killer ride through the canyons to get there, outstanding service, and they have given us a 20% discount on any parts. John, the owner and his wife barbecue hot dogs every Sunday (freebie) the coffee machine is always on. Jan he service lady is nice, knowledgeable, and just fun to talk to. Always a crowd of hang-arounds.

I wish there was a dealer like that around here. We have a couple of desent dealers in the North East Texas area but not that good. They do sale Aftermarket parts.

I have to say that my local dealer is pretty good with ordering and installing whatever the customer wants and will usually give their input as to whether it is good for the bike or not. There have been numerous times that I have ordered my parts and taken them there to have them put on with no problems. I have used various dealerships across the country and never really had any problems with any of them.

I would go to another dealer Skeet, this one sucks and doesn't deserve your hard earned money. 99% of HD dealers go out of their way to help you out with wharever you want or need, including aftermarket parts.

My dealer here in Ideeeho is great. Will order and install anything I want, no matter the brand. They will also gladly fix my screw-ups. Which has happened a coupla times. But let's not go there.

My dealer up here is pretty awesome .They will get you whatever you need they have a bunch of aftermarket catalogs and when he has been asked by the extended warrenty guys if the bike or trike in question has a trailer hitch he says no even if he just helped you unhook the trailer in his lot.
