my kit is in

my installer said my kit is in and my trike will be ready on the 25th. he will bring it back to me but i was thinking of going down and riding it home. my wife would follow me home with the car or we could rent a car to take there and she could ride home with me. the weather could be nice or bad here in PA. my installer is 121 miles frome me. help what should i do? boy o boy i'm really starting to get goofy walking the floor and talking to myself.

Well, I live in Florida and my dealer is about 150 miles away in Alabama, but still here in the sunny south. We had planned to drive the car up there, then take turns riding the trike home--we both wanted to try it out!

But when the happy day came, the Chief had just broken the middle finger of his clutch hand, so like the model wife that I am , I agreed to trailering the new baby home, since he couldn't take any turns at riding it.

Just my two cents. Seems like your weather is probably a little less trike-friendly at this time of year, but I can relate--on the way home, I couldn't take my eyes off that trike-o-licious cargo behind us on the trailer!

John, If the weather is mild I'd sure be tempted to ride! LOL. One question.... is this going to be your very first ride on three wheels? If so, you might be more comfortable "warming up" to the new feel on something other than a highway your first time out. If you have some experience.... go for it ! Congratulations!

100 % agree with NANA. I had a voyager on a 1100 Wing. I went to Americade Lake George 154 miles away. I found the Trike I wanted. A friend came up with a trailer and loaded my old 1100 Voyager an brought it home. I rode the new trike home Having experience with a voyager I thought I would have no problem. I learned fast that is was not the same and almost lost it a few time on the way home. Go slow, I would not suggest you have a passenger the first ride. :no:

I tend to agree with Nana and John, but if the weather in nice consider riding around town for a couple hours getting the feel of it some. Then just take your time getting home. I would do it solo until you log a number of miles.

JOHN A few things to think about if this is your first time on a trike ? it may sound stupid but don't put your feet down when you stop, they can get run over by the rear wheels , I helped a friend build a electra glide last winter with a champion kit on it , when he picked it up leaving my driveway he put his feet down & ran them over, to this day he has not rode that trike again . don't forget how wide it is, its real easy to run into the side of the garage or gas pump or parked car or anything with the rear fenders .take it easy in corners till you get used to it,some times its easy to oversteer. Other wise RIDE IT HOME . & RIDE SAFE:yes:

So John is the trike on schedule.. ? You should be riding it home by Thurs. As said before drive it around real slow in a parking lot. a trick I was taught and have showed people. Put it in gear in a large parking lot get going about 10 or 15 or so miles an hour. Take your left hand off the grip and drive it with only your right arm and hand. If you can, switch hands and try with just your left hand . Don't forget keep your feet up use the foot brake to slow down. :woohoo:

Roger that. I've found that even though I KNOW it's wider in the back, when I take a peek behind me, it still surprises me HOW wide it is. I've done OK with gas pumps, garage walls, etc., so far, but came a little too close for comfort at a toll booth last Thursday. The fender didn't actually come into contact with anything, but yeah, buddy, it was close. I'd only had the trike a couple of days at that point and consider that I learned an important lesson that day.

Though this is not an easy thing for ANY woman to admit, yes, I've got a wide rear-end! :eek:
