I think the 10-22 is the best .22 rifle out there for the money and always has been. Superb reliability.

    Teal,
Got a NAA BW (.22 WMR) as my hole weapon and absolutely love it. Surprisingly accurate, comfortable and enjoyable to fire. Loud as He** which is also a plus in a must-use situation. Small, almost zero "print" in any location regardless of clothing and more than capable of performing its job in the appropriate situations (Close combat personal protection). Of course, proper range and target points are the key to its effectiveness. Makes a perfect vest pocket weapon. Very well made and simplistic to clean and maintain. Also with its design and built in fail-safes leave little worries for mistakes and self-inflicted "boo-boos". I found mine off a local on-line classified for $220.00. Good luck in your search for one and I highly vouch for the unit.

I shoot a Browning Buck Mark ... really enjoy this pistol like others have said, really cheap and fun to shoot.

Before I found out Ruger planned on making a 10/22 Takedown model, I decided I wanted a survival 22LR for my Tri-Glide. I have a Marlin Papoose and a Savage 22/20 GA but they are retired. I purchased a 10/22 CCR with the 16.1 inch barrel. I put it in a Butler Creek folding stock. Added a front barrel band with rails so I could mount a Streamlight TLR-1 light. Mounted a Nikon 2-7x32 scope on it. The rifle is 25 inches folded. I am in the process of making a bag for it that will carry three 25 round mags and a brick of CCI Mini-Mags. I had an old GI antenna bag but has disappeared. I always keep a small lightweight tarp, water, fire starter, para-cord, knife and couple of lights on the trike.

+1 to the LCP as well. Just procurred one and added a LaserMax to it. Carry with a Tagua IWB fitted leather holster. Impressed so far. Can't deny Ruger quailty.

10-22 man here I love to tear them down and trick them out. I too have a private range about 10 minuntes from my house but Old Man has me I only shoot about 500 month. My son is only 11 but he has real potential to be a Great Shooter, On a good day i can eek him out on bull eye 50 yard Green monster, but just by a few points. My eye are getting worst his are getting better.

LunchBox (or others), some advice if you would be so kind given your affinity and experience...
Just inherited a 10/22. The (or one of the) smoothest , most solid and sweetest actions I have ever shot. Now I see why they are so relatively expensive compared to other quality semi-auto rim-fires.
Question is: I do not care for the standard OEM Carbine wood stock at all. Heavy, bulky, not ergonomic or comfortable. I realize it isn't really meant to be so don't hold it against Ruger. I have looked at several after-market replacements and narrowed down to the Hogue Overmolded Monte Carlo style or the ATI Strikeforce. I am looking to stay under $100. I will primarily care the weapon when walking or ATV'ing around the farm and shoot small game, snakes, or just target. What would you suggest of those or any other you prefer given this info?
    Thanks much for your thoughts.

P.s. Blessed as my "range" is in my back yard which is part of the 43 acres of 60/40 famland vs woods. Same land where I learned to shoot, bagged my first rabbit, squirrel, and deer many many years ago. Thankful to be American and to the 5 generations before me that procurred this land and the many before them that created, secured/defended, and bestowed the sacred Right upon us all.

Vertias44 I thought I might have what you were talking about. When I got my 10/22 it had a vinyl/alum folding stock that I replaced with a wood one,but I can not find a name on it.You sound a lot like me we live on 80 acres that I was raised on.Can still go to the place I killed my first sq.and rabbit.RIDE SAFE

Thanks Lucky. From description it sounds like a Butler Creek.
To return to ones roots and ancestral land is pretty special as you well know. Pretty nifty indeed. Enjoy!

Opening Day (Deer-Modern Gun) is in 9 days and can't wait. Of course the Ruger will sit that one out. Got a Marlin 336 30-30 (1967 model) primed and loaded with Hornady Lever Evolutions at the ready for that mission.

A lot of people like the Houge, Because i bench shoot i use Boyds stocks, they are about in your price range, I like the SS stocks, but the Tacticool is also great on bench. The Ss stokes come in many different cool colors so it adds some bling to your 10/22. For hunting the ruger plastic stock is hard to beat, go to Rimfirecentral.com it is the triketalk of 10/22 you should be able to find take off stock.

Thanks for that! I have looked at the Boyd's (on the net) and liked those as well. I am leaning toward the Hogue as I have used their products/grips for years on other weapons and never regretted it in the least. Guess kinda apples to oranges as I still haven't decided on a classic Monte-Carlo style or a more tactical folding type. Need to make that decision first I suppose. Either way want it to be minimalist yet comfortable and weather/wear resistant and of course it's gotta "look" good.
Thanks again for all the input and suggestions. Great weekend to all.
