Front tire?

2005 Goldwing with a 2010 Motor Trike kit. Just changed my first tire at 19,000....not because it was worn out, it started to crack down in the groves....right in the deepest part of the tread. I run a Bridgestone BT 45 reversed. That is what I bought again.

That is interesting that Doug would tell you that he recommended reversing the Michelin.
I spoke to Mary at their Daytona store today and she said that they recommend the Bridgestone G701 Extera front tire. They will not mount a reversed tire in their store.

I can verify that Doug told me the same thing last year. I have been running the Michelin ever since and have been very happy with it. I immediately noticed it running smoother and steering easier than the stock tire.

I had the Michelin mounted and have put a over three hundred miles on it. 40 lbs pressure and 30 lbs rear. The trike is riding great. Plus the the new Diamond velour seat, what a dream on a 17 year old bike.

MPA rear tire mounted in reverse at 41psi.
I just put my 2nd one on.
First one lasted 28,000 miles and still look good.

Been lurking for while and finally dropped the hammer an bought a 2006 GL Hannigan kit.

Question: I currently have on the front end a Dunlop Elite 3 130/70R18 Front Tire. As you can tell this is a Radial tire. Why is Bias preferred over the Radial?
Why a back tire in reverse used? If I have to, I will change it out on your recommendation.

As you can see I am still learning and appreciate any help.

Radial tire side wall is toooooooo soft. Bias ply is stiffer ( less hop in corner)
The rear tire has way more tread also is a flat not rounded profile
Just get a rear tire that is the same size as on the front. You are not changing rim just tire so you need a tire the same size as you have only a rear. This is obviously a tire that belongs on a different bike.
U don't have to do anything you can wear out a Dunlap tire every 7,000 miles if you like , or switch to a Battleaxe or a Venom or a Pilot Activ. Rear tire And go 20,000+
Mount it anyway you want. The reverse rotation is only a theory.

Thank you for the answer. I tried to search for the answer and wasn't getting anywhere. Taking the trike down tomorrow and get it changed out, again thanks for the answer

Mischlin is now stating on the web site that the Pilot Activ rear tire is to be mounted in reverse rotation when mounted on the front. The tread design is different on the front than the rear. Pay attention to how the tread is on the rear and the front and mount the rear tire with the tread looking like it does on your present front tire.

I have Honda Trike which I brought a new Michelin active tire which is mounted in reverse.Since I have put new tire on it seems to have a lot
of vibration whenever I give it gas especially up hill.Whenever I let off gas it seems to smooth back out.Has anyone else had this problem?

A new MPA does create a "buzz" vibration and I'm convinced it is simply the tread pattern. My MPA is now worn and ready to replace it and the buzz has all but gone away. The difference from accel/decel may be the load you're putting on front tire; i.e., accel lessens weight on front while decel increases weight.

I have the same "BUZZ" after I replaced the front tire. The tire is mounted backwards and I wonder if I had mounted it forward the "BUZZ" would cease to exist. However, it doesn't bother me in the least since I'm getting unbelievable mileage.

Having ridden mine with the MPA mounted straight up, and 3 others with Them mounted in reverse....."YES", They are louder in reverse....."ALSO", in Heavy Rain, They do not "clean" Themselves as well.....I have deliberately tried this also.....I was gonna' mount my next one in reverse, but have pretty much talked myself into mounting the next one straight up also.....

I have a question regarding front tire on the GL1800 trikes. As a general rule all 1800 front tires are 130/70-18. Most as I understand it are 130/70R-18 = Radial tires.
Since once a MC has been kitted all of the handling and geometry go out the window and it now becomes a mixed breed of sorts.

Having spoken to a few folks on this tire thing I am still ?. Some folks have turned the front tire around so the tread pattern is going backwards and swear by it. Others claim that a Bias Ply tire is just as good up front as a Radial. We all know that the front tire side wall is like steel rigid irregardless of whether we have a Radial or a Bias tire up there. It’s just designed to be a very rigid tire!!!!
Does it really make a diff whether we use a Bias Ply tire OR a Radial tire on the front now that we have modified the machine??

And has anyone had any dealings with a Vee tire. VEE RUBBER ::. MOTORCYCLE TIRE

Not being fortunate enough to own an 1800, I cannot address your specific problem. However, I have been digging for info such as you for 5 years regarding the front tires on a 1500SE trike. Seems no tire manufacturer will address this question. I know that wear on a trikes front tire is ridiculously fast. Plowing through the turns with virtually no lean scuffs the center rubber alot. I have recently installed a Metzler 808 on my 1500 Motortrike, and so far the wear is minimal. Also a SuperBrace helped stiffen up the forks, so it handles better in the turns. I wish we could get a flat profile tire for the front, as this would be better geometry for our use. If you find anything out, please let us know!!!!! jimsjinx
