It's time to lube the drive shaft on my MotorTrike with aqua shields. Can I use a floor jack to lift the trike enough to get to the drive shaft. And, if so, where do I position the jack?<br />

I have the "Sportster" on my VTX1800. In the past I would simply put the floor jack under the axle and lift. Then I would block for safety and go to work. Recently I cut a series of boards, 2x6's, screwed them together, beveled the leading edges, and just drive up on them. That gives me plenty of room to crawl under and grease, lubricate, and check torque on the whole system. I use Rotella high temp grease and white lithium where needed.
you can jack it up on rear axle housing cage
don,t put to much grease,,,, too much is like not enough!!!!

</div>Yea, my same response. I'd rather have too much and have it fling off then not enough. I try to wipe off all excess grease that comes out to keep flinging to a minimum.

How often should you lube the splines and do you use moly 60?
I do mine every other oil change or 10,000 miles. I pull the shaft and do the splines and the u-joint. Make sure you keep the parts lined up and don't get the shaft out of time. I use Honda moly past and standard grease. Don't over do it or you will have a mess to clean up.

I think that the IRS can go longer than the SA conversions. My thinking is that the IRS drive shaft is in a fixed position while the SA will move in and out of the yoke when hitting bumps etc.. The in and out movement will tend to push or work the grease out to some degree. When I had my MT SA, I rode 10,000 to 15,000 miles a yr. I would pull the driveshaft every winter to clean and lube it with Moly 60. It always had plenty of paste on it.
they say when grease the u joint to not put to much,,,,, because the grease come out and whith heat melte and can go around the cap ,and the cap can come loose,,,,,
on gl1500 those caps where punch !
