Default Gas usage on my trike

We just did another test to determine miles per gallon on my trike. This ride covered mountains, twisties, country roads and a little bit of traffic lights. The result being 42.09 mpg. In FL it was 42.5. I guess the mtns didn't make much of a difference. I have started an Excel spreadsheet and will be keeping the mileage with every tank of gas. Will give a summary at the end of summer and see how it pans out. In case Screwball reads this...no I don't coast down the mtns.

I have a 2011 TriGlide all stock except for a pcv. Before the pcv I was getting around 35mpg now I get 30 mpg at 65 mph or less. If I step it up to 70 or better millage drops to 27MPG so what you are getting is great, I have 10,000 miles on trike. I put the pcv on to get rid of the pinging. It pinged from day one and was bad tried octane booster and it didn't help, now with the pcv I still have to run high test or it pings.

I have a 2011 Tri-Glide as well and run right around 30 to 31 mpg at 75 to 80 mph (3200 rpm). The best I have gotten was last June in the Black Hills area of SD where we were running aroung 55 to 60 and I got 37 to 38 mpg. All of this is 2 up riding.

2011 Merlot and Black TG, Dennis's lift kit and deflectors.

I'm not Screwball but besides shutting your bike off and coasting down hills, do you ever twist the throttle?? The best I ever got was 39 mpg and that was in 5th gear on 2 lane highways maintaining 55 to 60 mph.

I can't get that much with my 50cc motorscooter on flat land!!!

Just kidding - that's great mpg - don't monkey with the it now.

I get around 32 to 36 mpg with my 2012 TG even after installing SE A/C, SE Fatshotz mufflers, SE Race Tuner and rear lift kit.
I only have 2K miles on it so far since I only rode it on the weekends here in Chicago over the winter. I expect to put on A LOT of miles this summer.

I've always used 87 octane in all my vehicles, including my Vettes and Harleys, until I bought my TG last Novenber. I've used premium up to now, but will try going back to 87 on my way to the BRP next month and see if the TG has any problem with it. It shouldn't since none of my other Harleys did including my 2010 Limited. We'll see.

I only check mine now and again. Running the vision tuner, gutted CAT stock head pipes, slip ons and new A/C. Scooter runs good.
I only average 28 to 32 but have been known to run above posted limits, most times two up.
Very happy with overall package and seem to smile allot!

I hear you scooty, that's all we were doing. Being a gentleman and loving husband I usually do the gassing up on both bikes. I noticed that my wife's (TNTriker) Triglide was not taking much more fuel than my RK, I started asking her to check her fuel mileage because I was reading on here about the poor fuel mileage folks were getting. She's checked it in Florida and here in the TN mtn's. Stays around 42 MPG. Don't know why she's getting such good Mileage?? She doesn't dog it or baby it. Just nice criuising speeds.

The Headerpipe is stock with Cat still in.
    Jackpot 3.5 Dyna tuned Slipon's
    Arlen Ness B/S air filter
    Nightrider's FL-Xied-10 AFR enrichment

Took the tourpak and Emergency brake off.
She rides solo all the time and doesn't carry a ton of stuff..

She runs 38 PSI front tire
    23 PSI Rear tires.

Always use Super Unleaded BP or Shell if possible.

It could be from losing the tour pack "weight" and the lower fairings "wind drag & weight" that's helping with the gas mileage, u think? Both your wife and TNTriker are running stiped down trikes and both are getting about the same mileage.

SEAlaskan, TNTriker is his wife. LOL We said that all along, but we did add the chrome luggage carrier and the chromed back rest that will add some weight back on to the trike. I commented on another thread, some months ago, that weight has a lot to do with the mpg. Someone, can't remember the posters name, came back and said weight has nothing to do with it, with others agreeing. Go figure. I still say that weight has alot to do with it. Some of the riders are running two up. with a trunk and tourpac filled to the rim, while pulling a trailer. I ride solo, don't want a big boxy trike that looks like everyone elses' trike. I love my trike!

I'm thinking a combination of weight and some of the modifications such as loosing the tour-pak have been a big help along with speeds. If your running in the 55 - 60 mph range your going to get pretty decent mileage. You may also have been fortunate enought to get 100% gas instead of the 10% ethanol which will sap some of the fuel economy. My fuel mileage is normaly in the pits due to 2 up and pulling a trailer and I travel a bunch of freeway miles and average 75 mph when doing so.

I didn't think about the ethanol since I don't deal with it, good point. Here and up north we have to watch for contaminated gas (rust and or water in the gas). We also don't want to fill up just after the fuel truck has topped of the tanks cause if the tanks are old steel tanks then nine times out ten the junk at the bottom of the tank would be mixed in and you would end up with bad gas.

I wish we could get Ethanol free gas M3. We are stuck like most other's with 10% in our gas. I know one thing about her riding style. She very seldom cranks on the throttle. Most of the time I doubt she ever get's above 3500 RPM's shifting and cruising is around 2800 to 3k most of the time.

Some of the riders are running two up. with a trunk and tourpac filled to the rim, while pulling a trailer. I ride solo, don't want a big boxy trike that looks like everyone elses' trike. I love my trike!
That might have been me making that weight comment. I was specifically speaking of my Trike and the testing done to date on my very bad gas mileage. There is very little change in MPG running 55 to 80 mph. There is no change over a 100 mile course with an additional 60 lbs of luggage. Met with a dyno-tune tech yesterday and he believes the maps tried to date are the problem. He got the trike to go into "limp mode" at 4100 RPM in second gear and says the ECM has a problem that he wants to research. He will call me Monday. Life and 26 MPG goes on.

That certainly wouldn't be a problem. But you must remember, Ron owes me a Diet Root Beer.
