Harley Trike Conversion - Shop keep parts?

Hi all,
My mother is going to convert my late father's harley into a trike so she can ride it. The shop she went to said that they keep the parts they take off. Is this normal? He put some expensive upgrades into the back end (better shocks, better pipe, better saddlebags etc) and I don't see why the shop should think they have any right to the parts. He paid for those and my mom is paying for the new ones. Is the shop manager trying to take advantage of her or am I missing something?

Unless she has a written contract that the installer is giving her a huge discount for the parts removed and not used,the removed parts will be hers to take and do as she wishes with.Take-off Harley parts in good condition bring good re-sale money,the installer knows that.
Most conversions that I know of,take-off parts are returned to the owner/customer.

I brought all of my take-offs home and sold them on ebay. Definitely, what cscsonny said!

I would agree, the parts removed from the bike belong to the owner of the bike, not the installer.

Unless agreed earlier that installer keep parts.

Absolutely not-no reason they should keep the parts, especially since you can sell them on Ebay or elsewhere. Step in and protect your mom from being taken advantage of.

It sounds like the of she shop is taking advantage of your Mother's situation. This is not the type of shop I would want to do business with, especially if follow up is needed after the installation. When I triked my '06 FLHTI, I received all of my parts back with no questions asked. I would expect any installer to do the same.

I just had my 2011 Road King converted.

The dealer stacked up all the take-off parts and delivered them to me at the same time that he delivered the trike.

Unless the dealer is reducing his price to account for the take-offs, it sounds like he is taking advantage of someone who might not know any better.

BTW, the stock take-offs aren't worth a whole lot, with maybe the exception of the hard bags. I tried to get my dealer to sell them on e-bay since he already has an account but he said it's mostly not worth the effort.

As a former mfg and installer, it was our policy that all take offs belonged to the customer (unless abandoned by them, and then only after 30 days).

Go elsewhere!!

I am a Dealer in Ohio and all takeoff parts belong to the owner of the Bike being Triked and are returned unless they don't want them. I would look for another Dealer.

Even though mine is a GW, I still have all the takeoff parts.
