Oil filter check valve

I'm going to start changing my oil myself. The last time I watched the guy he wedged a screwdriver in the filter to open the check valve so he could pour some oil into it. Does anyone know how to do this?

That is a bypass built into the filter..Some people do that most do not.

it just pushes in and out inside the filter.

I decided awhile back to go with a reusable filter which I have had no issues with and they are cleanable.

Yes I have the k&p and another brand I cant think of the name at the moment.

The only draw back is getting it off. I prefer my other reusable filter to where I can put the socket extention on the end of the filter housing to remove it..

I just installed the K&P on my Triglide, will also install one on my 06 Ultra when I get a chance.

I have them for a few years now and have had no problems except for removing the cover at times..

Cool stuff..wonder if they have them for the car too..

Yes they do make them for certain engines.
