Odometer Question

I know what the OD total running miles are, I also understand the two trip meters and what the advantages are for me one works well for the gas stop to gas stop, while the other works well for me to log and tally a whole trip and save me loads of figuring at each stop as well as when the trp is over.
But, when I click and hold to zero out the gas to gas and the total miles for the trip: There's another number and it's not my OD running total. I think it was 52 or maybe 92? That number also has a |_ type shape before the number. When I click again I'm right back at the OD running total mileage.
Is it some kind of code?
On my '03 Ultra, '97 heritage Springer, '90 ElictraGlide Sport, '85 FLT and my '72 XLCH sportster they all had just one trip meter that I used for gas to gas.
I would log my miles at start and finish if I cared for the total running miles.

You have bike mileage, Trip A, Trip B and Reserve Mileage. This last one shows miles before you run out. Has a small r before the miles left.

its a estimate of miles before you fill the tank up again. Once you fill the tank then drive a second it changes again and gives you miles before you fill the tank again..Remeber its only a estimate..

I agree, I certainly would not rely on its accuracy

Once mine drops to 9 miles left before empty, the number disappears, so you really don't have a milage after 9 miles. That is when you start sweating it! I have done that twice, just this year. The first time it happened, I put 5.85 gals of gas in the tank. Whew...that was close.

I put 4.9 gal in a 5 gal tank twice. This is very shortly after the fuel light came on. I think my bike has about a 2 oz reserve. Either that or the 5 gal tank really holds more then 5 gal.

Take a gallon with you and then ride till you run out. Put the gallon in then use your gas mileage to figure how much of that gallon you use getting to the gas station. Fill up and now you know your USABLE tank capacity.

I guess I thought I knew it all and as a result skipped over the answer to my own question while looking over the owners manual. My next adventure is going to be looking closer at the radio info. On my '03 Ultra I had to do a crash course every spring on the proper operation of my radio. lol lots of changes in nine years
More times than not I'd look at Delta and ask, explain this again. lol

The new radio controls operate the same as the old radio controls. When we take off for Rolling Thunder I'll give you another crash course.

Now as far as the miles to empty, I don't ever use it. When the red light comes on you have about 1 gallon left. I do what we have always done and rely on the trip meter. With my trike still breaking in I average 30 mpg. Get on the superslab and go 75 and the gas gauge seems to be the fastest moving gauge I've seen. At 150 miles of mixed riding my fuel gauge is on E. Love the bike, hate the fuel economy. We'll get used to it. How's the break in going?

Hey Delta,

I can always count on you. Your "over the winter"memory just amazes me. I do want to make sure the CBs are paired for the DC ride.
Saturday Sue and I rode 275 nice easy break it in right miles. We stopped to eat twice, one stop was more of a snack, the second was a seafood delight (Steamers and lobster). Man was I stuffed, no after dinner sweet stuff and Sue agreed. So, between all the rain I have only squeezed in 605 miles. I'm going to ride in the rain today and clock more miles, hopefully around 250 miles.

Sunday, was Mothers Day so, I did the right thing and hung at home so all the kids and grandkids could come here and say Happy mothers day to so. so, like I said, I did the right thing and spent the day working on the trike. lol
It's raining pretty hard right now so after I finish my coffee I'll spent a couple hours on the trike again, I still have a few things to go on in my garage. On Wednesday afternoon I drop the trike off in Keene for the 1000 mile service and I'm having them put some stuff on too. I got up and down off the floor so many times yesterday, Sue and Sarah tried to get me to stop and come in and rest. I didn't stop until I met my goal, well almost my goal. lol the pain factor was a bear and I kept getting tangled up in the 02 hose. Never made it for a ride yesterday, so I'm not sure if the pain is from 9 hours on the trike Saturday, or 6hours of up and down and working off the floor on Sunday or maybe one or more of my health issues, but Man alive am I sore.

I surely need a shorter windshield, a riders backrest and a seat that was made with comfort in mind. I've got both sets of baffles and both sets of lift kits. I haven't got to them yet, but they sure look nice, can't wait to get them in play. That wind that comes up over the tank, sometimes takes my breath away. When I try to catch up on breathing I tent to then breath with mouth only and come near to hyperventilate. Those bright little sparkly lights that flash on and off is what I need to avoid. The mustang backrest is on order. I still have all the things I'm taking off the Ultra, but she's still in the line up to get a new belt.

I think I'll put on the tour pak lift kit and the fork tube baffles this morning before I head out. Speaking of heading out, my rain gear mightbe way to big now, especially around my neck. I need the fit around my neck to be tight or as you know, the rain will just run down my body from my neck.

Do you remember Rusty from the Leatherneck and US Marine Riders?
He sat rift across from us during the lobster dinner. I knew I knew him but couldn't place him for the longest time, then it dawned on me. We talked for a while. He said he mostly rides with Tomahawk in the Great North Woods. He said to say Hi.
