Default Stallion in the rain?

We were looking at the Stallion pics here and on other websites, and my wife came up with a question. What happens in the rain? Is there a drain hole to let the water out? Didn't think of it when we have seen the ride in person, and didn't look when she test rode one at the Davis Rally a few years ago.

    Default Stallion in the rain?

I love when we get this question. People say "What happens when it rains?" I love to say "We get wet!" But here is what happened when it did rain.

It was May 1st 2007 when I was caught in a bad thunder storm. The wind was blowing and it started to get really dark. I was caught in a school zone, and then the bottom dropped out of the clouds. The rain started to come down like cats and dogs. The water started to fill up around my legs. I started to panic until I remembered I know how to swim! Then in a flash of panic I thought I would not have to swim because the wind would blow it out the back, but that was foiled because being in a school zone I was not able to go faster than 25mph! What was I to do?

As the water started to flow over the top of he outside of my stallion I started to feel better. I knew this design feature was made to conserve water in Texas because they have water conservation requirements that must be obeyed!:banghead:

Then I realized that It was APRIL FOOLS DAY! and my Stallion was fooling me! Just kidding, the foot area is sloped forward, and their are holes in the front where the gas and break is that is surrounded with brush like bristles that allow the water to drain. I have never had a problem with ponding water even in the heavy rain.

Thanks! We knew the water had to be able to drain somewhere, but hadn't the opprotunity to inspect that close. Of course the folks at MT/TMS wouldn't over look something as basic as this, we were curious as to how they did it.

BTW, when asked the rain question, (I think every all-weather rider gets it sooner or later) we say the same thing, or reply, "That's what rain gear is for."

HI, I'm new around here. So excuse my question if it has been asked before.

I do not own a Stallion although I'm thinking of replacing my FLHTCUI with one. I know what it is like to try seeing through the windshield in the rain on my Ultra Classic and I find myself sitting up to look over the top of the windscreen so I can see better.

How is visibility out of the Stallion during rain?

A bit off topic for this thread but I see some reports of wind turbulence. Is this significant for either the driver or the passenger?

I appreciate your sharing your experience with me.
Thanks.

I have ridden in fog, mist, rain, and heavy rain in the stallion. I have found it is great in heavy rain as the aero dynamic design will protect the driver from the rain very well. I have found you really don't need to wear eye protection due to the design will divert 99% of the wind around the driver. With that said I still always wear eye protection, but I do a lot of safety things that are redundant.

In heavy rain, most of the rain will be deflected. The occasional rain drop will start to build up on the top ridge of the windshield and then start to slowly roll on the inside of the wind shield. These rain drops start to accumulate and they hang out there too.

The droplets on the outside will roll up and off, but the ones on the inside hang around and they are too far away for you to easily wipe with your hands, and once you do, they will soon re-appear. When the sun comes out you will need to dry off the droplets and clean the inside of your windshield. Smaller windshields are easier to clean but they probably don't provide the protection that the Stallion's jet fighter shaped cockpit styled windshield accomplishes.

As for the rest of the results of the rain on the driver, I found with Frog togs rain gear I was very protected and stayed dry with the exception of the top of my boots started to get water drops from off the top of the mirror, and the surrounding area. My front side stayed very dry at moderate speeds, and I was very happy with how dry overall I was in the rain.

Now I was speaking for the driver, I never rode as a passenger in the rain, but I think Bella was OK when she wore a rain suit riding as a passenger.

As for the rest of your question, we have addressed the issue of passenger turbulence in multiple threads on this site under the Stallion forum.

If you are seriously considering purchasing a stallion PM me your phone number and I would be happy to answer as many questions as you care to ask, it would be faster, and I have some time today if you do.

Thanks for the offer.

I'm still in the learning stage right now. That's one of the reasons I'm here, to read, learn and I hope to ask a few appropriate questions.

To be honest I am really on the fence. I like riding my 2 wheeler, although I have never been really confident going two up.

A couple of years ago I rode over to Motor Trike in Troup Tx and took a factory tour and test rode one of their HD conversions. To be honest I wasn't all that impressed. Could have just been my lack of experience on that style of a ride. I know I wont move on a Stallion until I'm really sure of my decision.

Anyway, they were in the process of building the Stallion shops at that time. So I knew something was coming down the pike.

Here's my quandary, at $34K for a Stallion I could buy a retractable hard top Miata and get about the same drive experience and save several thousand.

So if it's all right with you guys I'm gonna hang around for awhile. I'll be quiet most of the time but may see something that gives rise to a question.

On a side note, and I know this isn't the proper place for a bio; Boggie Dog was a mutt my dad pick up going down the side of a highway. Not sure what kinds of dog went into making him but he did seem to have some poodle and some other stuff.

Long story short, at the lake one weekend riding off road trikes he kept chasing after me. I thought he was chasing the trike but when I stopped he put his front paws up on the side of the machine. I picked him up, sat him in front of me. He kept his paws on the tank and we rode around. He seemed to really like it so I kept going faster and pretty soon we were flat out. Hard corners, ruff road, nothing seemed to bother him. Picture a dog sitting in front of the driver, poodle like ears flapping in the wind and a big ol smile on the dogs face. He rode more than any of us after that first day.

Boggie isn't with us any more but I keep his memory alive by using his name. I hope he doesn't mind to much.

Thanks for the welcome, guys.

Boggie Dog, Thanks for the story. It was great to read.

As far as a trike vs. 2 wheels. The riding sensation is the same. I have not had the same feeling in any car. I was on 2 wheels for 40 + years. Just went to 3 wheels and absolutely love it. My wife who would not get on a bike, feel in love with the stallion and she rides it everywhere. Over 10k miles mostly local in the past 12 months. The ride feeling is not like a car at all.

Anyway welcome aboard and you will gather lots of info from the members here. Ted

I love that story! Perfect place for it too .
And as for you....Hang out indefinitely. If you appreciate trikes of any kind (whether you have one or not right now) you will enjoy the conversation and are welcome to participate in it too. Let us know what your final decision is.

i get that all the time WHY NOT BUY a Sports car. my friend there is no feeling like being on a bike and a trike (Stallion ) is no exception. a friend sold his trike because of back problems. he bought a Miata. had it 3 mo and sold it bought a 1968 Cougar and rebuilt it. Got sick of the CAR SHOW sitting around , this year he bought his old trike back and is back to smiling again.
It is the closest thing to flying with out leaving the ground.
I agree the first ride around a parking lot may not impress you may even scare you to death. It takes a few 100 miles to get the true feel of a trike.

We did 400 miles in blowing rain in Oct and I as the driver stayed fairly dry. My wife in the back was another story. She was not happy at all as the rear seat gets a lot of wind and if it is raining, welll you can guess the rest. We did both have on rain gear. I have ordered wind dams to try and should be here in a week. I sure hope they work.

I ran Sarasota to Ft. Worth last September. It rained every day, out and back. My feet got the wettest, a good foul weather jacket, by Columbia did its job. If I learned anything, it was that "we don't melt when wet". The water drained out the floor board area just fine.

Well I just re-read my old post, I forgot I wrote it. But as Moose my great dane nudges my elbow I will quickly just add one side note, and that is I (nudge) have added a pair of thin rain boots to my bag under my steering wheel to eliminate the wet boot issue.

We had our first outing in some real rain today. (Weather forecast was for sunny and warm!) We were pleased that with our rain gear that the Stallion was very stable. At driving speed, the windshield stays clear. At a stop or under an overpass for example, visibility was poor but didn't last long. I wasn't as worried as in previous rides on our Gold wing in the rain. The floor boards got a bit slippery so I may consider the floor mat idea.

I installed the soft doors from B&G upholstery before our 3200 mile trip from Florida to Texas and back and was pleased with how they worked. We had 2 inches a day of rain and muddy roads as well. They also keep a lot of the wind from coming into the passenger area. I would recommend them even if they are a little costly for what you get.

took about 1 1/2 hours for the first side and less than an hour for the other side. Each time you make a hole for the snap, you put the other half of the snap on the materail and have to completely take it off the trike for that. A lot of off and on during the proceedure.
