My Iway 500c is slowly dying and I want to replace it. Not with another Lowrance ans they are supposedly going out of the automotive business. My question is as above which are you using? Thanks.

We have a Garmin 2610. Granted it is a few generations old,but it does what we want it to do and does it well. Good features in navigation, doesn't play music, connect with the cell phone, no weather or traffic. Just good navigation. Well, as good as GPS is - they all are a bit wonky at times. Got ours at Amazon for around $200, refurbished by Garmin and had the same warrantee as a new one. Don't know what we would get if this one dies, electronics change so much so quickly.
Seems that Garmin is the big name in GPS, with TomTom right behind. We have a TomTom for Gloria's car, and it sends us on "detours" more often than the Garmin. FWIW, YMMV and any other acronym that applies.

I use a Garmin Zumo 450 on the trike. Just like the 550, but without Bluetooth or XM radio. I don't need the Bluetooth, and already had XM. Just a note about the Zumo, it doesn't have a speaker, it uses the speakers on your bike or headset..
Diane has a Magellean Roadmate in her car that does a real good job! Very easy to use and up to date.

I've never had one before, so I can't pretend to be an expert, but I went for the TomTom 920t and I've been pretty happy with it.

I'm with Chuck. I never had one before, but I did work on GPS way back when we were just putting it into aircraft. Anyway, my daughter got me a TomTom one for xmas, and it is pretty cool, but haven't had it on the road yet.

I recycle my GPS. I started with a E-map Garmin. Very tiny sort of hand held one of the first in the late 80's . When my truck one need replacement I took the Magellan Road mate out of the truck and put it on the bike ( I really don't like it much. ) I now have a Garmin 260 in the car ( was in the work truck until I left ) when I up grade in a year or 2 that will be my bike unit. If I was to buy one right now it would be the Garmin 255W. A lot of bang for the buck under $200.00

i use my cell phone for 10 bucks it was easy plus its voice activated.... dont think it will work good on a bike tho the screen is really small lol

Chickie, I am an iWay dealer as well as just about any brand you want except TomTom. Lowrance is coming out with a new iWay in late 2010 or ealry 2011 as so they told me the other day. They devoted last year and this one to Marine and Avionics (spelling????) I have seen a lot of the new Garmins on bikes and they look good. The main reason I went with the iWay was it's large screen and the fact that it is water resistant. I understand that Garmin's Nuvi is also water "proofed" so to say - can't prove it one way or the other.
When in doubt, go for a ride.

Got my Nuvi 750 from Costco on sale for $179 shipped and just love it.
Not waterproof, but only the Zumo and the Rider are. I just yank it off and put it in the bag. I figure if it's raining hard enough to worry about the GPS, I'm going to be looking ahead , not at the GPS ayway.
No matter the brand you choose, check out Costco on-line. They seem to always have something drastically reduced. Last time I looked it was the Garmin Nuvi 255W.
May wanna check it out John.

GTW - I just read your post and stand corrected! Apparently the Lorance is waterproof as well.
BTW - Lorance has for years long been the gold standard for Avionics and Maritime. I assume they were for mobile as well, always seemed pricy as all get out. Any change in that?

Garmin Zumo 550. Do not use the Bluetooth. I like it alot. I have mounts for it on all my vehicles. Ted

I'm on my 3rd Lowrance iway500 replacement an its dying, the big screen is gr8, would be nice if they could find a way to keep em working for at least a yr or 2, gonna look at a tomtom or garmin, hopefully they have a better track record of reliability.

It's a shame that the lowrence warranty doesn't cover operation in pouring rain, driving snow and 30 degrees below zero.

Never had a problem in the pouring rain, not much driving snow here in the swamp and only time I was in cold weather, and then it wasn't 30 below zero, was last year when we went up to Tuscaloosa for BAMA's Spring Game. All day Saturday was just beautiful - Sunday morning when we got up to head home to Florida, the temp had dropped down to the high 20's...brrrrr. I use a TomTom 720. Not water proof but fits nicely in a zip lock sandwitch bag. Bought it mostly for the FM broadcast function but have found with it mounted in front of the key, can hear just fine.
Previous GPS was a Garmin Color II. fine gps, still use it occasionaly just slow to recalculate and harder to cover if raining.

just jumping in here, tho I don't have a bike.
I love my tomtom 125. A GPS is a must-have for me. God shorted me when it comes to directions. Don't try to tell me to go north/south/east/west. Just give me my GPS. I have no idea how I got along without one before they came out.
