Installing Bluetooth

I am installing a Bluetooth on my 2012 Goldwing and need to know how to remove the ignitiaon switch cover and the wiring cover plate under the left handlebar. Are these clipped on like other things? Do I have to remove other panels to get these off.

Any suggestion would be helpful

I expect they haven't changed since '06 so here's what you need to do....

I think you are talking about the entire dash area not just the little garnish around the ignition switch...

That dash is held in place by clips and a couple post stuck through grommets. The clips are up top around the speakers and the posts are on either side of the ignition switch. Once you have it loose you will have to disconnect the tweeter speakers. I don't remember where the release is but if you pull the rubber boot off you will see it. The release for the wire connector just forward of the ignition switch in on the front side of that connector. A pair of long nose pliers will come in handy there.... Once the wires are loose that dash panel will life out completely.

The handlebar cover is held in place by two screws.

Look underneath and you'll see them.

A stubby #2 Phillips screwdriver works best.

Are you putting the J & M Bluetooth interface in?

That is what I installed a couple weeks ago.

I am installing a J & M Bluetooth Cell-Phone/GPS/Radar-beep. Part number on J & M site is CFBR-GL1800. There is three things that need to be removed. Left Faring Pocket, Ignition Switch Cover and Wiring cover plate under left handlebar. The only thing that I don't know how to remove is the Ignition Switch Cover. It is my luck I will have to tear off a lot just to remove the igniton switch cover.

What I said to do sound like a lot but it might take you all of five minutes if you are really careful. The second time you do it I'd say it will take maybe two minutes.

Is the j&m blutooth compatable with the goldwing system...does it work through the intercom system for the cell phone? like the cb radio...I have a nolan headset now and get everything except the cell phone ..my bike is a 2012 level 4 with factory gps,am-fm,xm,cb,and intercom

J & M part # CFBR-GL1800 is what I installed. Only wires are power, headset in and out, and unit control. All connections to GPS or Cell Phone are done via bluetooth. I had a Kennedy Technology system before and it worked but not near as well or easy as the J & M unit. One day I may go total bluetooth and do away with the headset cable too....

What is the difference between the CFBR-GL1800 Kit and the CFRG-GL18 Integration Kit for the GL1800? New to this so I hope it's not a stupid question!!

The CFBR-GL1800 connects to the GPS and Cell Phone via bluetooth. The CFRG is strictly hard wire connections. If you phone and GPS are bluetooth capable is sure is a lot easier and cleaner installation.

I installed a CFRG unit in a friends 1800 last year. Sure was pleased to see the J & M upgrade when I replaced my Kennedy Technologies unit a few months ago...

Did you see this??? It really is the best deal I've ever seen. You'll have to call them and talk to Robert. They don't have the CFBR on their web site yet but have it in stock for I think about $50 less then buying it direct from J & M... YUP, I've never figured that out yet myself......

Paul that is the non Bluetooth version. It works well but if you want to go wireless (well almost) the Bluetooth one works really great!

Sorry for the confusion Paul... What you are looking at is a bit different then the two unity we've been discussing but it does appear to have Bluetooth capabilities. Here is the J & M web site link to that item. Might be the perfect fit for some folks. Work taking a look at for sure...
